Babel - Pitt, Blanchett & Garcia Bernal in talks to star
I liked 21 Grams and this sounds like a good movie for Brad Pitt.

Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett and Gael Garcia Bernal are in talks to star in Babel, a Paramount drama that Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu is directing from a script by Guillermo Arriaga.
Variety says Babel will portray four interweaving stories set in Morocco, Tunisia, Mexico and Japan. The story is kicked off with a tragedy striking a married couple on vacation.
The film will reteam Inarritu with Arriaga. The two also collaborated on 21 Grams and Amores Perros.
Pitt next stars in 20th Century Fox's Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Angelina Jolie. On Sunday, Blanchett won for Best Supporting for her performance in The Aviator.

From the title I thought It'd be another period piece for Pitt, ala Troy. But it's obviously not. Sounds good - I bet it won't have a straight-forward narrative...

Good news, though personally, I'd like Inarritu to do a straight narrative one day. There's arty structure, then there's Love Actually-level distract-the-audience-from-the-story's-lack-of-depth structuring...

I agree, DonnachaOne. Well, not about Love Actually, which I, erm, loved... but about 21 Grams, which was overedited to an absolutely painful degree. I so wanted to like that movie, because it had a really good story and excellent acting, but it was ruined by the director's need to jump around in time sometimes as often as 3 times in 1 minute. I'm all for non-linear, but more is not always better. At a certain point, you just confuse and irritate your audience.
So I'm pretty excited about this new movie, cause Pitt is one of my favorite actors, but I hope the director reigns it in a little.

A very tiny preview of the Babel trailer that’ll be shown on ET today, is up at the ET website:
http://et.tv.yahoo.com/about/14669/
http://et.tv.yahoo.com/movies/14671/
Also from ET, is this article about the film: ET has an exclusive first look at the new BRAD PITT in his upcoming movie!
Brad often dramatically changes his look when taking on a new role. For this film, he sports a rugged, dusty look with short cropped hair.
‘Babel’ opens on October 6, but we have a special sneak peak on tonight’s show.
CATE BLANCHETT co-stars with Brad and an international ensemble of actors and non-professional actors from Morocco, Tijuana and Tokyo. The concept for ‘Babel’ comes from the famous biblical reference to a tower built by a united humanity with the intent to reach heaven. As the story goes, this upset God — in anger, God made each person involved speak different languages, halting the project and scattering a confused and disconnected people across the planet. In the film, Brad and Cate portray a married couple on vacation when a tragedy strikes, interweaving four stories set in Morocco, Tunisia, Mexico and Japan.
“The trouble is that we talk about the border as a place only,” says director ALEJANDRO GONZÁLEZ IÑÁRRITU. “The real borderlines are the ones within us.”
With ‘Babel,’ Alejandro concludes his trilogy that started with ‘Amores Perros’ and ‘21 Grams.’
Don’t miss our exclusive sneak preview of this powerful, gripping film on tonight’s ET.

Concludes his trilogy? Hmm..so hopefully this won't have a straightforward narrative. That is what I liked best about 21 Grams. How watching the movie was like putting a puzzle together. I don't think 21 Grams would've had the same impact if it had been told straightforward. I'm even more now looking forward to this. And I'm betting it will be one of my favorite movies of the year. With this movie and "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford" Brad Pitt is back on track.

I wasn't too crazy about the trailer. A lot of the stuff seems forced and a little cliché. However I'm sure that it was all taken out of contex and will work in the film. What a poor trailer though and that music! Ugh.

Just reviving this thread as the film opens this weekend.
Personally looking forward to seeing it. I am quite assured that, as with Inarritu's Amores Perros & 21 Grams, I will be leaving the theatre emotionally exhausted, at times depressed but overall exhilarated.
