Watch 4.
Watch 5.
Quit with the knowledge that you'll be a much happier person never having seen the rest.

Well I rented 4 and 5 last night...planned on watching 4, but didn't have time, so I'll be watching them sometime this weekend. I'll let you know what I think. I'll buy em if the results live up to the hype

I suppose the DVDs will suffice, but I'd hate for you to be sitting there wondering who that shaggy haired kid is at the end of Return of the Jedi.

The original widescreen versions of 4-6 are only avalible on VHS copies made pre 1997 special editions.

Watch ANH, ESB, and ROTJ. Forget the ROTJ naysayers and ewok haters. You'd have to be one very cynical, jaded person to not enjoy ROTJ as far as I'm concerned. It's not as good as ANH and ESB, but it still is a very good movie that beats the pants off of 90% of the crap released today. Some of the best moments in the entire Star Wars saga reside in Jedi. Yes, even though I've enjoyed the prequels, ROTJ is clearly better.
By the way, other than Wrath of Kahn and The Undiscovered Country, forget about Star Trek, because all of the others suck.

Boo Hiss! Star Trek rules!
I'd actually be curious to see if he'd watch 1-3 first and then he may enjoy them more. Think about it, as a franchise goes on, each movie should be better than the last. So start with 1,2,3 and 4,5,6 can only be that much better!
I like the first two, but not as much as the last three. I'm hoping three will be awesome!

the above order is the only way the saga makes sense. watching any other way is simply fool-hardy.

I'd suggest watching it in the theatrical release order though: 4,5,6 then 1,2,3; not because one trilogy's so much better than the other, but more so because that's how most people saw it.
