A 'What If' Question (Jaws & Oscar)
If you had to award a Best Actor Oscar to one of the three male leads (not including Bruce) in the 1975 film, Jaws, who would you choose to win?
As you know, no performers were nominated. The film was nominated for Best Picture, and it won an Oscar for Special Effects.

Like the dialog between Brody & Hooper, the same can be said of the dissapointment of Shaw not receiving a nomination:
Brody: Quint?
Hooper: No.

Hooper: No.

Scheider, but for All That Jazz four years later instead
For Jaws, it would obviously be Shaw, but his part likely would have been considered a supporting role.

Even though I've read and replied to this thread, I keep reading the subject header as "Jews and Oscar" and expect to see a rant about Passion of the Christ.

Quint had some of the best lines ("It proves you smart, wealthy, college boys don't have the education to admit when you're wrong"), plus Shaw also did that great and eerie soliloquy on the Indianapolis story.

Richard Dreyfuss is my 2nd favorite actor behind Jack Nicholson, so this is a no-brainer vote for me. He's so terribly underrated as a performer. I love actors who deliver lines in a manner completely unlike any other performer (Dreyfuss, Nicholson, Jeff Goldblum, Pacino, etc)...

Shaw owned his role, should have gotten a nom (and won) for best supporting actor. It would have been hard for anyone to top Nicholson in the best actor category that year.

I tend to agree. Jaws will always be best remembered for the horror aspect of the film. In fact, few if any motion pictures have had such a profound effect on the subconscious of its audience.
What is easily overlooked about Jaws is just how wonderful the performances were, pretty much across the board.
