There was quite a bit of cheering when the dog bit it in the Lost World.

Most absurd audience clapping moment was Batman and Robin. Yes, seriously.
Most recent one: the free screening for The Life Aquatic.

I still, and never will, know why, but there was quite a bit of clapping after The Day After Tomorrow (I thought it was alright, but not worthy of a clap) and the one that really makes me cringe is there was clapping after The Life of David Gale when I saw it (and I hated that movie!).

Well, I saw it in the middle of the day in this little budget theater that was filled with kids. Not that that excuses the applause. And I was sitting next to a couple of kids who were like, "that was a GOOD movie", without a trace of irony.

Maybe ROTK, but I'm not too sure. Other than that, I distinctly remember the audience clapping at the end of Toy Story 2.

I would have countered with booing.

Hmmm. Has anyone ever BOOED a movie?

There was a lot of booing at the end of Darkman. Probably others, but I can't recall right now.

Back to applause, when I saw The Exorcist rerelease a few years back, all of the famous bits were applauded; projectile vomiting. head spinning, crucifix masturbation, etc.
