Based on the interview, and the desciprtions of the clips at the comic con I believe it was, I can say I'm officially looking forward to this movie now. Every worry most people had is pretty much gone. This will be a faithful adaptation of the game, save for some questions on hell.

So yeah...I'm really looking for it now.

fumanstan 07-26-05 10:17 PM

Doom Trailer: http://media.filmforce.ign.com/media...04/vids_1.html

Doesn't look particularly interesting there.

thelwig14 07-26-05 10:58 PM

For some reason the movie kind of looks cheap to me (the colors are too bright and blue). Though, the lack of cg will be a breath of fresh air and I think it gives it a chance to be a classic.

Troy Stiffler 07-27-05 10:08 AM

Hmmm. Looks OK. Reminds me of Resident Evil ... ... ...

Groucho 07-27-05 10:16 AM

Hard to judge from just that teaser, but it looks like it could be pretty good.

Fincher Fan 07-27-05 10:25 AM

It's not going to set the world alight but I think it has the makings of a pretty fun flick and that's about all you can expect from this sort of movie. Looking forward to seeing it (finally).

Now where's that Duke Nukem movie?

I hear it's coming out to coincide with the release of Duke Nukem Forever. ;)

Alright! I can't wait for 1997!

Dr. DVD 07-28-05 08:08 AM

Trailer looked okay, not much to see really. Liked how they kept the whole flashlight view from Doom 3 though.

clemente 10-01-05 09:10 PM

And back to the forefront. Anyway, I've seen a few TV spots now for the movie and it looks like they did one thing right, its rated R.

Score one for not pandering to the kiddies (kinda weird to say about a movie based on a video game)

nemein 10-01-05 10:15 PM

There was a pretty extensive trailer before Serenity (part of the video magazine thing they show in theaters now). It certainly doesn't look like anything original (except for the POV-cam thing trying to recreate scenes from the game) but it looks like it could be fun.

Mr. Cinema 10-01-05 10:50 PM

I saw the trailer once and it looks exactly like Resident Evil.

RogueScribner 10-02-05 02:09 AM

That gun POV used in the trailer was soooooo cheesy. I hope it's not in the actual movie.

From what I understand that's supposedly the main gimmick of the movie.

Ketamine 10-02-05 08:15 AM

From what I understand it is only in one part of the movie and it is a very good scene.

SuprVgeta 10-08-05 02:05 AM

Hmmm... I don't know if this whole FPS view is going to turn out so hot.

V-ism 10-08-05 04:46 AM

I think the FPS scenes have a more negative effect on people who would go see this. I for one was undecided whether to go see this until that part showed up, and now I can say I will skip this movie.

UKingdom 10-08-05 06:06 AM

the FPS will be part of a 4 minute scene at the end of the movie; i think it works quite well; the audience will be pumped up at that point and it really "gets you in" like the game did

animalmystic 10-08-05 06:50 PM

I saw this trailer with Serenity, and the audience was laughing at the end when he is weilding the chainsaw, not a good sign.

Movie looks like trash

Dr. DVD 10-08-05 09:20 PM

Looks like it's faithful to the game to me. Obviously people aren't getting it or think video game movies are crap.

lamphorn 10-09-05 12:11 PM

Yes, video game movies are crap. It's like broadway plays adapted from movies, like Carrie The Musical or The Graduate The Musical. lame

Doom the movie without the from-hell aspect is a dumb idea.

amen. i couldn't even believe they showed that in a trailer...like it was supposed to get people in the seats with that shot. it was like a bad bad movie scene having the chainsaw as if it were in FPS view. this movie is going to fail, like House of the Dead did.

Dr. DVD 10-10-05 12:37 PM

I think this movie is following the storyline from Doom 3, but I could be wrong. I think it might do well for one weekend just because it's a horror/action flick being released close to Halloween, but not much else.

starseed1981 10-10-05 12:50 PM

For me, the bottom line on this is that of the Resident Evil movies.
I know it's gonna suck, but I'm still gonna see it.

juanmgonzalez 10-10-05 01:05 PM

I'll be there first few days of release....

As Starseed1981 mentioned, it's probably crap, but i'll be there.

Anything to get out of the office for a few hours on an extended lunch.

I'll rather play DOOM3 on the XBOX again. :)

But isn't the storyline of Doom 3 just a remake of Doom?

Not exactly. I think the first two Doom games took place on Earth. Doom 3 takes place on a research facility on Mars.

From the trailer however, it doesn't appear to follow Doom 3 exactly either, instead replacing a gate to "Hell" with that stupid genetic research angle. Everything else appears to be taken from it though, including the weapons and monsters.

No - actually, the first Doom consists of three episodes. The first one, "Knee-Deep in the Dead", does indeed take place on Mars. The names of the other two episodes, "Shores of Hell" and "Inferno", kind of speak for themselves. :)

As does "Doom II: Hell on Earth".

So yes, Doom 3's "story" is to a very large extent a remake of that of Doom.

Ah, gotcha. I could only remember the subtitle for Doom II.

kgrogers1979 10-16-05 04:10 PM

Is the Cyberdemon in the Doom movie? I would go see the movie just for that.

DRG 10-16-05 06:01 PM

Yeah, I'm not sold on the first person scenes either. I'm all for being faithful to the game's source material, but in terms of story, tone, look, creatures, and so on. But when they try to tie it to the game in this manner (and also with House of the Dead's cutaways to actual footage from the game) it takes me out of that world. It's like the movie is slapping you across the face and shouting "This is a movie based on a videogame" rather than letting you become immersed in that world.

Fok 10-17-05 12:10 AM

I hope its good, the Rock was doing so well up until now

Fincher Fan 10-17-05 07:10 AM

Doom, the game, barely had a story to start with. It was just a lame concept to fight cool monsters. From the trailers and various promotional material I've seen, I'm not expecting much from the movie so hopefully I won't be disappointed. The FPS scene sounded stupid at first but I liked the execution in the trailer so we'll see. I just hope there isn't a sequence where they have to collect blue, red and yellow key cards to open doors.

nodeerforamonth 10-18-05 04:42 PM

Here a little mini-review:

from www.wrestlingobserver.com

--I saw "Doom" last night at its Hollywood premiere. Being that I was warned many times about how violent it was, my first reaction was, man was that movie violent. So you've been warned, but the warning doesn't do it justice. It was exciting to me and I know nothing about the video game. Remember ahead of time, this is a Sci-Fi movie with monsters and lots of blood and hardcore fight scenes. There is a story from the premiere at http://www.zap2it.com/movies/news/st...-27030,00.html. Two of the cast embers, Karl Urban and Rosamund Pike, have signed for a potential sequel. Rock has not signed but apparently said "it's possible" and is interested. There haven't been a ton of reviews, but they should be coming in a few days. Not sure this one will review well due to, well, it's really violent.

Sounds good to me!!!

Joe Molotov 10-18-05 04:56 PM

IGN seemed to like it. They gave it 3/5 stars and said it was the best videogame-to-movie adaptation yet.

Nesbit 10-18-05 05:22 PM
