Ong Bak

Ong Bak is tough to search for using the site's feature so if this is duplicative, I apologize.

Just watched the trailer for Ong Bak & was taken completely by surprise. Where did this guy come from??? For those as unfamilier with this film as I was, it is a martial arts actioner staring a guy named Tony Jaa. The studio is proclaiming him to be the next Bruce Lee/Jackie Chan/Jet Li. As a huge fan of Bruce & Jackie I don't take these sorts of claims lightly and will reserve judgement until I see the movie...but I gotta say this guy looks kick ass. More Jackie than Bruce, but damned good!

Check out the trailer at:

and the teaser at:

Have fun!

I cant wait for the North American Release of this movie. I know it has been out on non Region 1 DVD for some time, but I want to see this in the theater.

I hope it makes it to Toronto. (still kicking myself for missing it at the 2003 film festival)

I don't know. I'm afraid the plot looks a little too complicated.

Officially...no. But do you really need subs to understand what's going on when a guy's legs are and his kicking another guy in the head?

I watched this movie earlier this year, and thought it was decent at best. The plot was pretty lame, but I know that's not why people watch martial arts movies. The fighting was pretty cool, but there were just too many cheesy moments that made me roll my eyes. They did this effect where they would show all the "cool" hits multiple times over, in slow motion. It got irritating, and took me out of the movie.

Not a horrible movie. It was pretty entertaining, but it's nothing I'd watch again.

I'm used to seeing Jackie Chan present multiple angles/takes of his stunts back to back and I personally love it. Highlights include the pole slide in Police Story & (especiall) the clock tower fall in Project A. JC doesn't usually do this with slow motion though and, as far as I can recall, restricts it to only 1 stunt in the film.

there's a double VCD edition with English subs but the video quality is really not that great.

oh and yes, the film is a trip and a half, Phanom Yeerum is completely unreal - the action scenes are breathtaking.
