Casting Extras?

Hey all,

Although special make-up effects is my calling, I would still like to go to casting calls/auditions to be an extra in any movie that comes around. THE ISLAND set coming here to Detroit has made me wonder..... what's the best way for someone to become aware of 1) Major movies coming to town (in this case, around Detroit) and/or 2) If and when casting calls/auditions for extras will be held....

Thanks,

Matt

To find out about productions, I guess you could try to call the film commission in your area. All productions must get film permits way in advance of shooting.

As far as casting calls, etc. you should try to find the largest casting agency in your area and submit a headshot. Any casting agents looking for extra talent will most likely go thru them.

I don't know about Detroit, but here in NYC there are several casting agencies that deal almost exclusively with providing extras.

There should be a casting agent in your area who handles film work, there may be several, in fact. Just send them all a pic and resume. Most extra casting is done locally, not out of NY or Hollyweed.

Casting agents and local film board, as already mentioned.

...BTW, extras are no longer called "extras": They've been upgraded to
Background Artists...

Background Artisits are the people who paint/draw the backgrounds in SFX shots
