I have a fondness for FOTR. I was such a non-believer that they would pull it off...and they did. I ahve to admit it's my favorite one of the trilogy to watch.

FOTR is still my fav to watch. I may even put ROTK as third, even though it was awesome I found the journey to that point more interesting than the pay-off itself.

I like the trilogy for the accomplishment that it is. I like all the movies.
As a fan of the book I enjoyed the first one the most because it brought to life a story that I had first read over 30 years ago. Seeing those scenes for me was awesome.

I picked FOTR. It's just got the adventure, beauty, and emotion that the other 2 don't have.

I voted for Big Fish... why? Not sure... maybe its because I liked all three of the LOTR equally.

On a scale of one Star of Nogdoth, that which guides the Fadlanchill nomads to the fields of Binnemis, to five Stars of Hikkanista, which shine and light the enchanted back gardens of the tribes of Quilluminshire, I rate these films four Stars of Soogooloogoo out of five.

Question: Is this poll to determine which one (if any) you should watch next or just curiousity? Seems like a strange poll for someone who hasn't seen them all.

I preferred Fellowship for the small-scale battle scenes, that seemed very vital and personal. I felt a bit of that feeling was lost in Two Towers. But after I saw Return of the King, and how they handled everyone, it became my favorite.
My favorite shot was in Fellowship, at the end, when the guys are charging down the hill, and the camera takes an overhead track.
The best shot in Two Towers is where Legolas mounts on the horse. There was just something sensational about the seriousness of it all. My favorite moment in Two Towers is when Treebeard stumbles onto the cut-down forrest.
My favorite moment was in Return of the King, when Gandalf is telling Pippin how death is just the begining of life. It really gave the battles a satisfying feeling and insight of why they risk their lives. The second best is when Frodo and Sam are sitting on the rock. Just simply because I hadn't read the books, and had no expectations of them living. Everying I saw, heard, and felt during the entire trilogy pointed towards Frodo's doom. You can't imagine the feeling I felt when Gandalf arrived.
Fucking passionate, sensational, satisfying, poignent, relentless trilogy. It was truely a work from the heart and mind. The kind of movie that sits in a maturing mind for years before being made; played over time and time again until everything was - perfect. Since becoming an adult, I haven't had my senses stirred in such a wonderful way.
They are good.

I have to ask. why did you spell it out LoTr? that would be spaced as "Lord of The ring"
why not cap the L and R since of and the aren't as impotant. "Lord of the Rings" makes more sense.

Since the Extended Edition of Return of the King has not been released yet, and let's face it...the EE's are really the complete "true" versions of these films, it woulda been nice to see this poll when that film got it's real due.
As it stands, The Fellowship of the Ring remains the best of the three. LOTR is a journey through an ancient land, not a medieval action yarn and this film best captures that, the spirit of Tolkien's novel. The sheer novelty when it was released and the excitement of finally seeing this story done right makes it a special film, it's sense of discovery. And it includes the most changes to the story that actually improves on Tolkien's book: ie. Frodo and Aragorn's parting at AMon Hen, the excising of Tom Bombadil, Boromir's awesome final stand and death scene, etc.
The Two Towers imo ranks third but it most definitely was the biggest challenge to adapt, having to introduce a half dozen important characters and lacking a real beginning and end. The EE fixes many of the problems I had with the film, such as a lack of motivation for Faramir and few "character moments" that the first film excelled at. I still love it and the introduction of Gollum is a true movie milestone but again, it ranks third.
What problems I had with The Return of the King on first viewing were more than made up for with it's terrific acting, emotion, relentless pace and shifting the emphasis more onto the real heroes of this story...the hobbits. This movie is like the cinematic equivalent of a 5-Layer burrito with the works and the best salsa you've ever had in your life. Still, the flaws are there. It's ridiculously rushed, even for a three hour and fifteen minute film. The way it rushes past the entire landscape of Mordor in a matter of minutes after hearing so much about this dreaded land was a real WTF moment for me. But in the end the pros squash the cons and the ending is perfection. Again the EE will no doubt fix some of these problems so my misgivings now I can let slide until December. So again:
1) FOTR
2) ROTK
3) TTT

FOTR is easily the best of the 3 films in my opinion. It has the distinctive personal style of a Peter Jackson film which the other 2 lack, though they are still excellent and technically amazing.

For me it is FOTR, ROTK, TT , although I have great admiration for all 3, it is of varying degrees of admiration. I may expect greater things for ROTK ranking once we get that extended cut though
