Anyone see "Ladder 49" and want to discuss?

Thinking about seeing this tomorrow, but was wondering if anyone saw this yet in an advance screening or something.

It is about firefighters and their engince company headed by John Travolta and Joaquin Phoenix. Looks pretty good. Ebert and Roeper gave it two thumbs up. Loved "Backdraft" and this looks just as promising...

a whopping 29% on rottentomatoes

I don't think I'll see it in theaters if at all. I like Joaquin but Travolta is too hard to bear in these roles

Looks like a paycheck film for Joaquin. Its a shame. You would think more actors would actually try to give themselves a flawless filmography.

Spoiler:
Isn't he crying in that scene that is in the trailer when John Travolta says he's coming in to save him and Joaquin is saying to leave him?

Anyway, I think I'll have to go see it just because it was filmed here. Some weird draw I have to it....sucks, because that also means I'll have to go see XXX 2 with Ice Cube when it comes out.

Ebert's 3 1/2-star review here.

Saw this tonight and really enjoyed it.

Bravo for Hollywood making this film.

It was a bit overly sentimental....but deserved.

I'll give it 3 of 4 stars.

I'll be buying this on DVD also....the DTS theatre I was in had amazing sound...lets hope the DVD can hold up.

He already ruined it by being in Gladiator, Signs, and The Village.

I keep seeing ads for this during Rescue Me, and I keep thinking, "Why are they showing these ads during this show? The ads make it look like an sappy, generic Hollywood inspirational film. Rescue Me is a dry, sarcastic, and lewd show. Just because they both have firefighters doesn't mean they're similar enough to cross-market."

I saw this tonight, and I was HIGHLY disappointed. I went based on Ebert's glowing review, and could he not be more wrong!

Saw this on Friday and thought it was just ok. What i didnt like was that the cheese factor was way over the top, real sappy but i expected that. I liked Backdraft better.

I thought it was a very good film. But I swear the score sounded EXACTLY like the score from "Titanic."

Overly sappy and it coulda used 15-20 minutes shaved off but other then that I enjoyed it.

Glad they didn't go with the usual cop out ending although it was somewhat anti-climatic.
