I always get into a horror-watching kick around this time of year. I'll probably get to revisiting most of these in October:
NOES Collection + Freddy vs Jason (FvJ isn't really scary, but it's great entertainment)
Friday the 13th 1-8 (haven't watched these in their entirety in a few years....can't wait for the box set out Oct. 5
)
Halloween 1,2, and maybe 4, 5 and H20
TCM '74 (this one's a must...the remake's pretty good too...never seen the sequels)
The Exorcist
Carrie
Freaks
'68 and '90 versions of Night of the Living Dead
Dawn of the Dead (and maybe the remake since I haven't seen it)
The Haunting (original)
Poltergeist 1 and 2 (#3 only if I'm really bored and in the mood to see a non-skeletal Lara Flynn Boyle)
Suspiria
The Funhouse
Horror of Dracula
Terror Train
Tourist Trap
My Bloody Valentine
April Fool's Day
Sleepaway Camp
Creepshow 1 and 2 (the new divimax dvd of 2 should get here next week!)
The Shining
Carnival of Souls (Criterion dvd)
Psycho (ok, maybe this is more suspense than horror, but I love it and usually end up watching it around Halloween time)
The Fog
IT - the bad special effects may have ruined the last half-hour (i.e. the adults fighting the giant fake plastic spider thing), but the first part focusing on the kids is really well-done and genuinely creepy...i'm actually glad they left certain parts out from the massive book....Tim Curry owns the role of Pennywise
and if I'm in the mood for a good horror-comedy I might put on one of these:
Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein
Fright Night
House on Haunted Hill (the original with Vincent Price)
Elvira: Mistress of the Dark
Scream
Student Bodies
Scary Movie

DVD Talk Limited Edition
Two underrated and little known creepy movies.
Burnt Offerings.
The Entity
These are not slasher flicks but eerie movies like they used to make.

Burnt Offerings used to scare the crap outta me when I was a kid. I watched it recently and it didn't do it for me anymore. Unfortunately, The Entity is nowhere near a DVD release. I did manage to rip my old VHS copy, though. It used to freak me out that it was "based on a true story". However, I've learned over the years that that doesn't mean a whole lot in movieland.Originally posted by riley_dude

I'm still wanting to see the extended cut of The Frighteners, sigh.

WOW, looks like some of you guys are going to have great Halloween's
As for me I still have a few titles to buy before I get mine started.
I'm thinking off:
Halloween 1-2
The Thing
House Of 1000 Corpses
The Lost Boys SE (not so much a horror but I need to fit it in!)
Maybe some more if I have any spare cash not going on new realeses

I watched "Children Shouldn't Play with Dead things" last night. I didn't expect much but it was damn creepy. Granted, the production values suck, the acting is mediocre at best and the DVD transfer was horrible (if this is the best print they could find, pity the poor folks who have VHS copies). I think the B-movie (or less) production values actually helped the creepy factor (as they did with Evil Dead). It wasn't all "slicked" up so they had to be innovative with the make-up. I loved this flick,
. Bob Clark does a great job with creating anticipation and dread.
There's not much gore, a little blood and that's it so gorehounds won't like it but I really liked the spooky atmosphere that it created.
Not everyone will like it but if you like B-grade drive-in movies and atmospheric creepiness, I suggest this flick. Great for Halloween!
