This could turn out well, it appears that they are borrowing from SH 1 and 2. I have no problems with this being turned into a movie so long as they keep everything that makes the game scary. Creatures are only a small part of it, and the game itself is scary due to your own imagination (IMO). Can't wait to see a teaser.

I hope this turns out to be good, as other posters have mentioned.

There better be some old rusty wheelchairs in it..

I love the games, and always thought that they had movie potential. The problem as with most video games is that it needs to be done right. There should be some good action, but alot of time alone with the sense of stuff happening and nothing happening needs to be there too. I have hope for the film, but I'm trying not to hype it up to myself too much.

Hopefully its has SH1&2 and not 3&4 feel to it. I guess the biggest thing which the RE series failed to do was remember this is about everyday common man and not some superhero matrix wannabe.

Because the everyday man is a part of an elite special tactics team.

So what's the difference between SH1&2 and SH3&4?

Silent Hill 1 and 2 were both very original in their approach. SH2 in particular in my opinion had the best linking story I've ever seen in a video game - disturbing, but moving and profound at the same time. The kind of deeper storytelling one never sees in something like a videogame. In my opinion, the plot of SH2 stands up against that of the best horror films or novels I have seen or read. (In general, all of the SH games have an underlying sadness in their storylines that transcends the simple "frights/thrills" approach of most horror.)

SH3 and 4 on the other hand, while still entertaining games, were considerably less fresh. The formula had been well established and the newer games (with the excpetion of some small gimmicks) really didn't break any new ground. The plots were nowhere nearly as compelling as in the first two games, nor could they possibly succeed at being as scary. Still, if you've never played the first two games, you would probably find SH3 and 4 pretty harrowing.

I am REALLY looking forward to the SH movie - probably my most anticipated movie of next year. I realize there is a very high probability that I will be let down, given how Hollywood usually handles video game-to-movie adaptations. But if they do somehow manage to do this right, it could be out of the park.

I am glad that Pyramid Head is going to be in it. Again, if they do the effect/character of PH properly, he could be the creepiest horror movie villain ever (just as he is the creepiest horror video game character of all time).

There's a very atmoshperic teaser up at http://www.sonypictures.com/movies/silenthill/ .. not sure if it's the same as the .mpg from previous posts. I actually like it.

Release date: 4-21-06

[Woman] "Sometimes when you go to sleep. You go on a little walk, and sometimes you talk about a place... called Silent Hill."

[Little Girl] "I don't remember."

Says a lot right there, without saying too terribly much, but I'm happy with the direction its going.

(The preloader for the Sony site just reminded why I don't play games like this.)

I had forgotten how crazy, scary, and fun that game was. Count me in to check this out. The girlfriend will just love it, I'm sure.
