Also, don't forget that William has been locked away in the dark for centuries. He's not at full strength, nor is he as capable of a fighter as he used to be. Plus, he probably went mad in there, so the only person he recognizes is Markus.

i really enjoyed this movie although i thought the first one was pretty mediocre.

Yeah I was just watching the news and they were talking about how UNDERWORLD 2 was kicking ass at the box office this weekend. I guess anything could happen between now and the next few weeks but it's still cool to see it doing ok.

Supermallet 01-22-06 10:55 PM

I just think it's great to be able to say that Underworld is the #1 movie in America. :)

Dudikoff 01-22-06 11:43 PM

I'm always happy to see a successful rated R movie because it results in more being made. I don't think a horror movie has to R to be good, but they sure are funner for us folks who like blood and guts.

I really enjoyed the movie, perhaps more than the first. Besides the so called "cool factor," which I think is a tad bit corny, it was an interesting story with a quick pace. The best characters in the Underworld movies seem to be the bad guys though. Kate and Scott are very bland actors. Of course, no one watches Kate for her acting abilities. If your reading this Kate, sorry.

Supermallet 01-23-06 12:17 AM

Actually, I think Kate was quite good in both films. As far as the villains go, Markus was excellent in his bat form, and William got so little screen time that I would almost call it a cameo.

Saw this Saturday and LOVED it!

LOTS more action than the first, and I was skeptical how cheesy the effects might be, but they were GOOD! I was surprised how bloody it was, not that thats bad or anything, I'm just still in awe that a sequel could be so good. It's nice not to be dissapointed for a change.

Like some of the other posters here, I was a little confused about the story line/character lineage, but I look forward to watching it again and again to figure it out.

The HD-DVD/Blu-ray DVD will be mine!

saw this and thought it was merely ok. i don't think it was a lot better than the first or even better period. it wasn't horrible mind you, but i thought it would be better. i didn't expect too much going in anyway, but still i was left with a feeling it could have been much more.

tell me again, what was Victor's original plan from the first movie?

Watch Serendipity.

I saw this this weekend, and I LOVED it. Yes it was mindless action. I thought Kate played a bit too much like an emotional weenie in this one, but otherwise I was impressed to no end... Markus's wings rocked.

i don't think ice skating in Central Park can be considered mindless action!

He had no plan. He was asleep. Once he woke up his only "plan" was to kill Michael. Viktor has a thing about "inter-immortal" breeding. :D

SeekOnce 01-23-06 03:53 PM

Found the story a bit messy to follow with one viewing so I'm hoping on some clarification here:

Spoiler:
Markus makes a deal with Viktor on his deathbed to turn him and his army to immortals. I just can't remember why. It was to help control William and the rest of the Lycans right? Since they were getting way out of hand?

Also, in that intro scene when William is caught, I could've sworn I heard Viktor banish Markus to imprisonment as well along with William. Am I mistaken?

Yes. and
Spoiler:
he just wanted him away from the action so he wouldn't get killed or the thought was all the vamps would die thereafter.

Xander 01-24-06 09:30 AM

Saw it on Saturday. I liked it. Probably better than the first one, since I think the original drags a bit on repeat viewings. Nice effects and a decent storyline. Except they left me wondering what the hell was up with Selene at the end. But still a good movie.

Schwenkstar 01-24-06 03:53 PM

I really did not like the first installment since I thought it was just a film trying to cash in on the whole Matrix/Blade craze... and the fact that it had a really simplistic story line and ho-hum action didn't help. So when I went to see Underworld: Evolution I had very low expectations...

And I was shocked... I actually didn't hate the film!

The story line was slightly more sophisticated. The two main characters dig deeper into a mystery about the past that both helps in expanding Underworld's mythology as well as creating a sense of intrigue for the audience. The visuals seemed to be more gothic rather than slick and mainstream as the previous version was, thus creating a better sense of its own identity. Not to mention, the great actor Derek Jacobi shows up to add a great level of sophistication and respectability to the film.

However, the ending was very anti-climatic and left an otherwise decent film on a very sour note. It was very cliched and seemed to be a cop out that the audience has seen in dozens of hollywood action films. And, of course, the film does contain several occurances of Hollywood's standard formulas and plot holes throughout the narrative, but luckily the film doesn't indulge in them as much as the previous installment does.

OVerall, not a bad watch, though I would recommend you wait to rent it on DVD and save a few bucks.

She drank Alexander's blood, and since he was the first immortal, she basically became a super-vampire. Expanded powers, none of the weaknesses.

matrixrok9 01-24-06 04:44 PM

So who would win in a fight, Blade or Selene?

Supermallet 01-24-06 04:53 PM

I'd have to say Wolverine. Or maybe a Jedi. Could be Batman, though.

matrixrok9 01-24-06 06:36 PM

Could be Predator, they always show up at the end of epic battles.

cisman 01-25-06 09:24 AM

I"m glad to see it did well. I could be wrong but I read somewhere when the first one came out that the plan was to do one sequels and a prequel. We have the sequel so maybe they'll actually go back and tell the story of what happening in medievil times. That would be cool. Don't know how likely this is though since they had some flashbacks in this one.

Right, but
Spoiler:

Markus had his blood too, right? And he wasn't immune to sunlight. That bugged me. Hopefully if they do another one, they will explain that.
