His parents were of "diluted" bloodlines but their child, being born of two parents originating of said bloodline (however diluted) produced a pure heir. That is why Aragorn was blessed with long life but his parents were not. The same goes of the vampires and werewolves of the Underworld Universe.

i see what your saying. in that sense yes they are pure. in the sense of a pure bloodline, i still disagree. but i completly agree with you in that sense that the child would be pure.

Also, another hint of his pure blood was his ability to remove the silver bullets without pulling them out and the fact that the nitrate round didn't kill him imediately.

Again, I say this not knowing if UW2 has changed the info or stuck with it. Either way, this is something also touched on in the UW Novel and come to think of it UW1:

Lucian's ability to push the bullets out and not dieing when shot with the new rounds had nothing to do with being Pure. I believe it has more to do with <b>age</b>. Selene mentions in her narration in UW1 that <i>"The moon no longer held its sway, and older more powerful Lycan could change at will"</i>, or something like that. This is why Viktor was able to kill Raze with his bare hands. Apparently most lycan in Wolf form are stronger than Vampires. Anyway, this age thing also makes me wonder how old Amelia was and why she was such an easy target for the Lycan in UW1.

RocShemp 01-30-06 05:37 AM

Yeah, I remember it being about Lucian being an elder werewolf. But I venture to guess that it might also have to do with him being pure. If not, Raze and that other other Lycan selen killed (the one Raze said that the silver rounds "prevented him from making the change") wouldn't have to remove the silver manually. They would have just pushed it out like Lucian did.

That said, don't worry about your facts. UW:E changes little of what is stated in UW. All it does is tie loose ends and confirm that Viktor was not the oldest but a turned vampire.

Giantrobo <<<< ----UNDERWORLD FANBOY ALERT!!

If you remember, when the doctor examined the Lycan he said, and I'm paraphrasing here, that <i>the Bullets had already pierced his VITAL ORGANS so it was pointless to remove the bullets.</i> That Lycan had no chance once she shot him then came up and shot him again at close range. Now, Raze had those Silver Shurikens in his chest but I assume the blades were hooked into flesh so IF he had the ability to push them out this would've made it more difficult.

Right, it's just a movie but it's still fun to act like a "Star Wars Fanboy" and get way too deep into the story. :D

I'll grant you the shurikens but, regarding the Lycan Selene killed, I meant the moment when he ran into the dubway (before Selene caught up to him). Instead of pushing the single round out, he dug into his woumd with his hands. Lucian didn't seem to have to bother when Selene shot him.

Oh I certainly understand that. ;) I just made the comment because you always seemed to excuse your facts. You don't have to because the UW novel is still canon. So your facts are accurate.

How was Markus a hybrid? I realize he was the oldest, and therefore, the strongest vampire, but I don't remember how he became a hybrid (Yes, I just saw this last night, but I have no memory of the explanation).

RocShemp 01-30-06 08:48 AM

He was awakened by the blood of a Lycan (the googly-eyed scientist) at the end of the first film. Since he posseses the Corvinus strain, he became a Hybrid. That's why he wanted to find and turn William into another Hybrid.

B.A. 01-30-06 08:57 AM

Ah, the scientist was a lycan - thanks, RS.

According to the Novel, :p , he was a NAZI scientist bitten by Lucian back during WWII. I assume he was chosen so that he could aid Lucian in his "Hybrid Project".

B.A. 01-30-06 09:08 AM

Hmm, a Nazified werewolf scientist - how scary.

One thing kept going through my mind, though: where the hell does this series take place?
-The first movie was urban, except for the mansion. The vampires and Lucian talked with English accents. Michael, the doctor, and the cops had American accents.
-The sequel opens with Selene and Michael on a night's journey on foot in the middle of nowhere. The TV news anchor in the tavern, as well as the cops, seemed to be speaking in an Eastern European language or Russian. The guard at the pier sounded like he was talking in French.

I believe the events unfold in Budapest, or someplace like that. And all the main characters speak english so the whole movie isn't subtitled. :)

fryinpan1 01-30-06 04:52 PM

Both films take place in Budapest, Hungary.

Also, the lycan scientist's name was Singe.

DJLinus 01-30-06 09:24 PM

Hungary makes sense, given the vampire mythos. Just wondering why Budapest has American cops and doctors. Also, curious as to Kraven's background (he had an American accent, too).

Good explanation. Just wait until Mel Gibson directs part 3. :)

What? Underworld 3 in Aramaic? :D

Ok, I finally saw it and of course I loved it. I think what I loved the most was the "Backstory".

Can't wait for the dvd

RocShemp 02-07-06 01:48 PM

Glad you liked it, Giantrobo. And, yes, the best part was the backstory. I hope there's an extended DVD release that might flesh out the history further.

FYI - The comic book adaptation should be out now from IDW Publishing.

iggystar 03-25-06 10:17 AM

Finally saw it last night. I was kind of disappointed. It felt like there was much more chase than actual story. I can't say what I think should have been done, but I know I would have liked more of Marcus besides him running after Selene and Michael. Marcus was cool and sexy. I told my friend that I love how lycans and vampires must be shirtless. I'm not mad. :)

I think I missed the main characters from the first movie, Vicktor, Lucien and yes, Kraven too. Sure their fates were sealed in the first outing, but I guess I thought since there was more back story in this movie there would be more of the those characters and the ancient history of the lycans and vampires. I loved seeing Amelia in action.

It wasn't horrible, but just OK. The love scene was very nice Scott Speedman....

Sorry you didn't dig it as much.

Yeah, check out the books if you have time. UW:Blood Enemy definately deals with alot of the Vampire/Lycan history shown in the first part of Evolution with the exception of the parts dealing with Marcus and his brother. I have UW:Evolution but I haven't read it yet so i don't know if anything in the movie is expanded on in that book.

I know! I wanted this to be one of my favorite movies of the year. Oh well.

I going to check out the books for sure. Thanks.

Giantrobo 03-27-06 07:23 AM

iggystar, I was thinking how you're like the 2nd or 3rd homegirl I know to say that Marcus was hot. I never woulda thought Tony Curran(Also played a Vampire in Blade II) would be getting ya'll so worked up.

And hey, didn't Bill Nighy kick ass as Viktor? Hell, all the Elders rocked during that Flashback.

fryinpan1 03-27-06 05:23 PM

The film has grossed over $100 million worldwide:

Hopefully, the DVD (6/6/06 release date) sells well and we will start getting some Underworld 3 news.

I hope so too. From the ending of the second one you could tell the writer has a final finale in mind. Mindless fun I tell you.

First of all, I already have a thing for vampires. Secondly, I love redheads...yes, Tony Curran was the highlight of this movie for me. I remember him in Blade II and in The 13th Warrior. I'm completely worked up.

Bill Nighy was awesome! I think the third installment should involve the Elders back in the day.

RocShemp 03-29-06 12:13 AM

I remeber some time ago when Underworld: Evolution was still in pre-production it was claimed that Len Wiseman was debating wether or not follow Underworld: Evolution with a sequel or a prequel and then a sequel. I hope he gives us a prequel first because the opening sequence of Underworld: Evolution left me drooling for more.

He was also the best part of The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen and was good (although underused) in the remake Flight Of The Phoenix.

Oh I know. My whole, "First of all" was just to put emphasis on how much I love vampires and redheads...it was kind of like I had no hope with Tony Curran, he just fit into all of my horny demographics. He had me at first bite (not when he was all hybrid-slimy, but you know what I mean). :)

When I reread my post I could feel my "sister-girl-neck-roll-finger-snap" going on but it was in a good way. I was glad to know I wasn't the only one feeling him. :)

You're my boy Robo. ;)

Prequel please. Oh my, Marcus and Viktor and Kraven (Amelia's nice too)...I don't know if I could take it, but I'd try.

Think I'm going to order those books like Robo suggested.

Despite of the fact that I'd want Amelia featured in the prequel just to see the gorgeous Zita Görög on the big screen once more:drool:, I'm actually curious about Amelia. She was only in the first film to look hot and get killed and in the flashback to look hot and kill some werewolves. That's great and all but I'd like some backstory on her. I know Robo had once mentioned that in the books she's a member of the Elders because she's apparently the smartest but I'd actually like to see how she attained that rank. The roles of Viktor and Marcus have been cleared up but I'm curious to find out if she was in on Viktor's agenda or if she was simply in the dark. I'd also like to know how/when Kraven was "recruited" (and why Viktor would trust him anyway). And more Viktor and Marcus werewolf slaying is a must.:D

I don't remember saying anything about Amelia's history because frankly there isn't much info on her even in the books that I've read so far.

Kraven, according to his short appearence in the book "Blood Enemy", was just some low level Vampire guard at one of the Vampire castles and he was apparently from England. Then the whole "I killed Lucious" bullshit made him Viktor's right hand man.

Terrell 04-01-06 05:00 PM

I haven't seen this one yet, but I need to know one thing. Is Michael the baddest mofo in town, so to speak, like they said he would be in the first film? Supposedly, because he was a lychen and a vampire, he was the most powerful. But they didn't really show it in the film. Even though he gave Viktor a run, Viktor was about to kill him.

So is he the badass he's supposed to be?

For the most part yes. But he's still kinda new to all this stuff.

Then I must have mistaken you for another poster that day. Sorry.

Well then I hope Amelia's history gets revealed in either a prequel film or one of the books.

So he was a nobody that suddenly made it big? I'm surprised both Viktor and Lucian trusted him for such important tasks.

No problem. I started wondering If I had said something about it myself. I guess I'm not crazy after all.

Yeah, he was a sneaky manipulative bastard who was just trying to make it big.
