Captain Howdy

Who the hell is that behind that creepy white make up!?!?!?

Captain Howdy aka Pazuzu scares the shit out of me. And was the flashes of his face only in
Exorcist: The Begining and The Exorcist: The Version you never Seen before or was he in the original 73' version?

Yes he was in the original '73 version. You see a couple more glimpses of him in The Version You May Have Already Seen.

Here's a pic. Scary to see when it's dark...

The Version You've Never Seen adds the face a few more times; while Regan's getting checked by the doctor, while Regan's getting exorcised (superimposition on her own face) and, in what I only see as silliness - on an oven range.

Yeah, 'cause oven ranges are SCARY!

There's also aother face that quickly appears when mommy goes to Regan's door. It's not terribly scary but it's surprising...

That "Chick in the makeup" is Eileen Dietz. Sad that she hasn't done much since... Mercedes McCambridge, the voice, has passed away.

Interesting that to recreate the personification of true evil, they used two women...

Now, I'm off to watch "Onibaba".

It's actually not a guy. It was an actress named Eileen Dietz.

That face was the head of the Iraqi statue at the start of the film. You can make out the entire body of it superimposed on Regan's wall a little later on.

Dick_Grayson you posted that so unexpectedly!
I got chills.

i don't know why but I'm still haunted by that face no matter what. I haven't seen the Exorcist since 2000 but It still scares the shit out of me.

Yeah, same here. I saw it as a kid and I didn't think that much of it. But then when it was re-released, I had to go out and drink because I was so scared. It's the first time I actually needed a drink to calm down. That spider walk scene did it for me, plus the newly mixed sound was unreal. I would buy it, but I don't feel like scaring myself that badly.

Do you see the face in the new one? I heard in order to save production time and forego makeup they considered just using Michael Jackson but that would have been TOO scary and he was held up with his trial anyway.

I have never actually seen The Exorcist; is that what Captain Howdy is from? It's amazing how scary one quick glance of a face can be--I liked the montage when the first chick died in The Ring. And of course the classic fade-in in Halloween.

Yep, that's the name Linda Blair gives her imaginary friend who she speaks to. Turns out her imaginary friend is the Devil. Funny how it's usually a woman that plays him(ie. Passion of the Christ). You should see the movie!

I don't think it's ON the oven, more like just in the air right behind her.

Pazuzu was tormenting him with the fate of his dying mother.

Riv, the point was not that it was on an oven range, but that it was present in such a small, not-very-unnerving-at-all capacity. When the face isn't up against darkness, it just looks a bit silly...

You might want to work on that one before you use it in the tour, Carlin...

hmm, i never saw the version i haven't seen before but from the orginal i always assumed the face was there to be spooky and creepy you out and not that it represented anything more, ie, being the face of the demon. and speaking of that, am i wrong to think that it was a demon and not actually satan?

Yeah, possessing an adolesent girl in Georgetown is definitely something that gets delegated out to a minion.

i've only seen the excorcist once, a couple of years ago. i don't remember seeing the face. does it pop up like the tyler flashes in fight club or is it clearly there. i remember some people saying that they never say tyler pop up during fight club and maybe that would explain why i don't remember seeing the face. then again it was three years ago that i saw the movie.

He just flashes on the screen within the blink of the eye.
The feeling is you were supposed to bearly see it then have a weird feeling something was terriably wrong after the scene was over.

Yeah, in the original, it's more of a flash cut than what they did on the new version, which I thought just looked silly. The spiderwalk scene was awesome though. I wish I could just get that scene spliced into the original film and I'd be happy.
