ROTJ screencaps!

Return of the Jedi DVD screencaps.

Here's the rest. Don't want to clog the thread with large files.

Yes, unfortunately Hayde replaces Shaw in the ghost scene at the end of ROTJ. I don't like the change, but it's the only bad one made in my opinion.

Re: Revenge of the Sith it is!!!!

You know, this screencap almost makes me glad they're remastering these films. Even as a kid I remember thinking how the Rancor monster effect looked like pure shit.

Isn't that also the name of a British sitcom?

Yep, the Rancor scene has been digitally recomposited. A whole lot of stuff in ROTJ has been digitally recomposited. I must admit, I've seen it and it look incredible.

Comparison shot:

LD screencap:

DVD screencap:

That's a compressed divx screencap, and it still look amazing.

Why would it look different?

And? My hometown looks exactly as it did 20 years ago. Unless the war extends to Naboo, which it doesn't, I'd see no reason for it too look different. The town I live in now basically looks as it did 20 years ago, other than some new buildings and a growing population.

I understand that some people wanted a completely new scene of Naboo, but I think it links the 2 trilogies quite nicely while not making a ridiculous change. I imagine Lucas is spending a ton of money on restoring, tweaking, and making these DVD. Creating an entirely new shot on the scale of the Naboo shot would be very time consuming and expensive, especially considering he's working in Episode III night and day. Who knows. All I'm saying is it would create a bigger continuity problem if it didn't look like the Naboo from TPM. It needs to look the same, or at least very similar. Different viewpoints I guess.

Unless he changes it, like he did the 2nd movie.

Return of the Jedi was originally Revenge of the Jedi.

It's a throw back to the whole revenge of the jedi thing. Very doubtful that it will be changed. as for the spirit scene. Anakin being replaced at the end of ROTJ with Hayde.

After seeing that, I'd agree that it was unnecessary to change Anakin's spirit.

Thanks.

Although its not an utterly crucial scene, having Hayden in there looks weird.

Well, it's crucial enough. It's obvious they took Hayden's head and placed it on Shaw's body. They should have dressed Hayden, shot him in front of a bluescreen, and had him act out the scene. Take as many takes as it needed for him to nail the scene. But his expressions aren't what they need to be because he may not have even acted that scene out. They may have just taken another shot of his head and comped it in. Shaw played the scene perfectly. I could handle it better if Hayden actually smiled at Luke, and looked over at Obi-Wan and Yoda exactly the way he was supposed to. But he looked down at first, and then slightly looked over them.

Shaw should have been left in the scene. However, I'm giddy over all the other changes and screenshots.

I reserve judgement till we learn in Ep3 the origin & meaning of the Jedi spirits.

I believe Anakin is going to invent this technique:
--Nobody's done it in Ep 1 or 2
--He said in Ep2 that someday he'll make it so people don't have to die

Therefore, since we don't yet know the technique, who are we to say if the ghost should be old Anakin or young Anakin?

We do not yet know the rule about whether your spirit carries your at-death image or your final-pure (before Dark Side) image. For Ben & Yoda, these two rules would present the same result--not so for Anakin. We'll find out in May 2005, I guess.
