The reason the list skews towards films that are pretty well known (by real film fans) is because of the voting process. There are over 100 members in the OFCS and many, many less-well known films were nominated. But if not enough people have seen them they won't get the votes to make the list. It always happens that way. There was some discussion of how to handle that aspect of it but I think a straight vote ended up being the most democratic way.
One more reason why democracy just doesn't work.

Thanks Gil. Hope no offense was taken.

None at all! The point of lists like that is to spur discussion, not to cement one person or group's opinion as the final word.

"Very Bad Things" is, along with "Wild Things," among the best exploitation films of the past decade.

Except for the hotel scene and the ending, VBT is a pretty weak film. Those two scenes do redeem things though.

I take it by "Overlooked", they mean box office business...many of these movies have done quite well on home video and are well-known among movie fans. I guess I was expecting a list of good movies I have never heard of...instead I got a list of good/average films that I was well-aware of and that just didn't perform well at the theaters.

I'm glad Thin Red Line didn't make the list, it was one of the most boring movies i've ever seen.

Bottle Rocket and Bullet in the Head are two of my favorites of all time.

I was surprised to see Pump Up The Volume on there, because I thought it was a late 80's flick...but sure enough, 1990.

Oh, good call Tscott! YES! Both are terrific films and would *definitely* be on my list too. Like a few that mentioned here, I'm happy to see "Babe:Pig in the City" on this list. Still baffled that it didn't do the business (or more) the first one did. Darker film or not. And "The Ice Storm" is a great GREAT film. Which got robbed at the Oscars. Did it get nominated for anything !? I'm also glad to see "Proof" on this list. Waiting for this to come out on DVD someday.

I was surprised that I had seen about half of those. I'm not sure if I was surprised that it was so many or so few though...

Would The Usual Suspects qualify as overlooked? I would think so since it only made around $20mil at the box office, and I never heard of it before it aired on cable.

Ok, if there had been a different name on the opening credits, it wouldn't get half the praise it gets.

Finally someone said it. Pretty good list. Dead Man with Johnny Depp should be on it though. And Ed Wood. October Sky getting the praise it deserves.

Oh, on the list a poster provided it was Dead Calm.

Oh and I would also nominate The Big Lebowski and Quiz Show, but the latter was nominated an Oscar so its probably not elgible.

And its a great list by the way. I'd like to refer to this list anytime someone says the 90s was a bad decade for movies.

Where's Gattaca?

I'm slightly disagree with The Iron Giant being not overlooked. Still too few people watched this movie.
