Couldn't find Box Office thread for this week, so I guess I'll park this here.

I definitely agree about those shots with a lot of dropped frames. That was really stupid.
But, because I'm in a complaining mood right now, how the hell did Umbrella think they could cover up the fact that there were zombies in Racoon City when there were so many witnesses that were let out before they closed the gates?

How could they put up a giant wall around an entire city (50 square miles maybe? considering there are high-rise towers and skyscrapers and neighborhoods etc...) overnight? I don't care how much money you have, it's just not possible even in fantasyland.

Ok, went and saw this tonight. I was expecting an enjoyable popcorn flick, I wasn't expecting the horror-action genre to be rewritten or anything.
What I got was.....a very enjoyable popcorn flick, that left a nice smile on my face when it was all said and done. My only complaint, and it is small, is the whole Nemesis thing seemed a little forced...I could've gone with just straight zombies.
I liked this better than the first (which I liked, but wasn't thrilled with) by a significant margin. Glad I saw this one.
Oh, and whoever that was that was playing Jill Valentine....WOW
What a perfect embodiment of a video game character. I'll have to go find out more about her.

Saw the Movie
I just saw the movie about 2 days ago and it was in comparasion to the first much better. The actress who played Jill Valentine was very hot and it was not Mira Sorvino. Mila Jovinovich did a great job as always Alice but I did not understand somethings about where the films are going after this because they leave room for another film but I can't think of where it will go because I never got in to following the games.

Pretty much the only options is to go after Umbierlla itself or just do side shit. But it's pretty much used any of the games plots already.. minus RE4.

I had zero expectations from this movie, especially after seeing how bad AvP was. All things considered, RE2 was much better than AvP.
My major objections:
- the editing is way too frantic for its own good. You have some nicely choreographed fight sequences, but you can't even see them, because they had itchy fingers in the editing room, and they have to move the camera or jump to another angle evey second.
- the first movie cleverly avoided any national identification. Earlier in this thread, someone was complaining about the implausibilty of having a wall around an entire city. Well, we know from history that such cities existed in the Soviet Union. So we don't actually know if Umbrella didn't actually build this custom city in the Amazon, for all we know. The first film didn't actually place the story in any known country, but unfortunately we see an American flag in the second, and the outline of North America in the closing shot.

Raccoon City was always a small city in America.
Unless I missed something from the games...

Though, the city presented in the movie (at least at the end of the first flick) sure looked bigger than what was indicated in the games.

Well, they definately could go into the downfall of Umbrella, that seems like the most logical step. I know RE4 is like 6 years later after Umbrella is shut down (I think) so RE3 (the movie) could explore that, since the games haven't really talked about it shutting down.

early speculations was that RE4 was going to be the crew taking down the Euro HQ of Umbrella. Guess that's left for RE5 since RE4 seems like a side thing with Leon trying to save a kid.

The point is, even if the games indicated Raccoon City was a U.S. location, it would have been preferable to forego any clear geographic location in the film version. This would've also gone nicely with all the accents we hear in the movie (the German and the Russian...), and would prevent questions like "how can the corporation do this or that?"

And,PLayit AgainSam, the games established it very well that it was a middle of the country city in the US.

I liked this one A LOT better than the first one, which I didn't like that much.
I thought that this was good mindless entertainment. 2.5 stars.
To me, Mila isn't attractive at all....she looks like a crackwhore. The other girl looked good though (even though her being a cop and wearing an outfit like that was totally ridiculous but I'm not complaining
)

those accents were Umbrella soliders. the game established that Umbrella hired these soviet mercenaries to take care of business. from what I recall the names were kept the same for carlos' crew.

What difference does it make?
Do we know where the precise locations of Gotham City or Metropolis are? We have an idea they're on the East Coast of DC's America but that's about it...
