Ouch. Sucks for The Chronicles of Riddick. Last weekend, it grossed $25 million. This weekend, it'll maybe gross $8 million. Ouch indeed. I guess we won't be seeing a sequel (which might've been better than the first). Garfield and Stepford will probably gross $10 million tops each this weekend also (down from last weekend's $21 million).

I'm sure The Terminal will have some legs as did Spielberg's Catch Me If You Can did. It might not make a lot during it's first weekend, but I'm sure people will be going to catch it through the weeks to come. I'm sure that along with Harry Potter and Shrek will have a nice bump in grosses today.

I guess this means I should go out and see Dodgeball since it's number one.

$110 million dollar budget for Around The World in 80 Days, and it opened in 9th place...ouch indeed.

It also doesn't help that the film had little-to-none advertising (with the exception on ABC, ABC Family, or Disney Channel... I saw no ads anywhere else). ;)

Around the World in 80 Days had been bleeding me on HSX for a good while. I remember hearing about it a couple months ago and saying "Why would ANYONE want to see that?" and immediatly shorted it. It's gone up 20 since then, but will probably drop 25 this weekend

Disney just picked up the American rights. They didn't pay to make the film at all. Walden Media must be pissed off though (a lot of German investors seem to be getting screwed in Hollywood).

I don't know crap about the money side of hollywood. But where Riddick is on that list doesn't surpise me. I'm a little disappointed though. This movie was fantastic. Besides Dodgeball & Potter, I don't have much desire to see any of those others. Hopefully, Riddick can maintain a decent amount consistently over the next few weeks.

It only made $2.8 million on Wed & Thurs combined. A whopping 3 day total of $5.1 million. That has got to hurt.

I think this will fall just short of Pluto Nash of being the biggest flop ever. But in someways, it's a testament to the crapitude of this flick that it can't even be the best at being the worst.

Are you sure The Alamo won't take over the reigns from Pluto Nash?

It's official. Jackie Chan's too damn old and he's not funny anymore.

I agree with you that he's probably too old for the type of stunts he's used too.
Also Jackie has got to choose better projects here in Hollywood that are more suited to his talents unfortunately because of his language skills, he always relied on the physical aspects to get him over. I think is time for him to go back to Hong Kong where his talents will be better appreciated.

P.S. No more Rush Hour movies Jackie, please.

I really think that it was a lack of marketing that doomed this movie. With a fair amount of advertising, I think that it could have done much better.

Around the World in 80 Days will probably make money overseas. Much more than it makes here. It will still probably turn a profit. :lol:

Ouch, that hurts. Around the World, that's pretty bad. Anybody know what Disney paid for domestic distribution? While I have no doubt that they paid far less than the production cost (I'd cguess 30 mil or something) that's still bad.

And too bad about Riddick...I really would like to see a sequel. But truthfully I thought this movie would perform poorly from a few months ago. It just didn't seem like it would do well...huge budget for a flick that I guess doesn't have that wide an appeal. Though I imagine it'll be a pretty big success on DVD.

So let's see..... Eisner picked up <i>Around The World</i> and passed on <i>Fahrenheit 9/11</i>. Here's a man who obviously has his fingers on the pulsebeat of the movie world.

HUGE opening day for Dodgeball. Probably the most significant opening weekend of 2004 IMO. A Ben Stiller comedy beating out a Spielberg directed movie starring arguably the most beloved actor of the past 10 years, & beating it by a rather large amount.

More significant than Passion of the Christ? I kinda figure going in Dodgeball would be #1. Funny trailer and any of us who got whacked in the head by large rubber balls in grade school will be interested in such a flick.

Of course it's more significant! How can Passion's 700 million dollar gross and nearly 400 million domestic gross compare to dodgeballs 100 million dollar destiny. And all that controversy...didn't you know dodgeball is anti-semetic?

Its still only Friday's numbers. The difference will be much smaller for the weekend numbers.
