Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

what's your sources mdc3000 for the 3D-ing it and IMAX engagements, I think Disney would have a cow if 'Alice' was reduced to not all it's commercial IMAX screens. Personally I'd think 'Clash' would make more sense and commercial appeal on an IMAX screen than Burton's creepy 'Alice in Wonderland' film - but I'm just drawing my own conclusions on that theory

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I'm not sure why people enjoy seeing films that weren't filmed for IMAX on Imax screens. Always looks like crap to me. It was most noticeable for The Dark Knight because they had a few scenes filmed for IMAX so you were able to compare in real time.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

^ the IMAX screening I saw of 'Star Trek' was by far the best time 'experience' at the movies in 2009 - regardless if it wasn't filmed with actual IMAX cameras, I'd say it's akin to 35mm blowups to 70mm in the seventies and early eighties, they weren't filmed in actual 70mm but when enhanced were spectacular to say the least. Of course it'd make a hell of difference if scope 2.35 films were opened matted like 'Avatar' to use more of the actual IMAX screen - Cameron had the common sense to do that!

Too bad we don't have IMAX in PR.

Agreed. I saw ST 4 times. 3 regular and 1 IMAX and the IMAX picture was very "clean" to my eyes.

I could have sworn I read somewhere that the IMAX thing was happening (not out of the realm of possibility since it opens 3 weeks after ALICE - however HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON is opening that day in IMAX 3D) but can't find it now, so I'll assume it was BS. Sorry guys, my bad. Here's the link to an article about the possible 3D-ing of Clash http://www.heatvisionblog.com/2010/0...ming-soon.html

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

^ if the 3D process goes into effect that'd be great since the number of 3D screens in and around DC has grown significantly - there are 3 screens alone at AMC Tysons, and for a few theatres namely Cinema De Lux and Regal Fairfax Corner whose locations are too close (apparently there a distance stipulation between theatres that prevents the booking of certain studios/films to be close proximity to either theatre) to one another a simultaneous release of both 'Clash' and 'How to Train Your Dragon' would not be problamatic.

Wikipedia:

Clash of the Titans was originally set for standard release on March 26, 2010. The Heat Vision Blog reported on January 27, 2010 that after a 3-D conversion test of the film which Warner Bros. found to be a "roaring success," the film would be converted to 3-D and would premiere on April 2, 2010

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I re-watched the original not long ago. It's still a guilty pleasure for me, but there's a lot of room for improvement. A LOT. I expect the remake to be at least as good, if not better.

Also, the title makes no sense.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I wonder how good the 3D could possibly be. Sure the CGI can be re-rendered but the live footage would look awkward.

There is a lot of room to enhance the premise. I remember as well as a kid that the title makes no sense.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

Spoiler:
Medusa and the Kraken were the titans. Well as far as the film was concerned, anyway. One was used as a weapon against the other and thus they clashed.

And that's if we ignore that the Kraken originates not with Greek mythology but with Scandinavian mythology.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

That's the "official" explanation given by the Three Witches. Except it contradicts the beginning of the film where Zeus clearly explains that the Kraken is the last of the Titans.

A more accurate title would be "Clash of the Olympians", but even then the relationship between the Gods is only mildly adversarial. The Mount Olympus actors totally phone it in, which is too bad because they had some great casting for those scenes.

I know. But let's face it, the film basically takes a huge dump on Greek Mythology. Not that the remake will be any different in that regard.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

True, I think God of War is a bit more accurate in comparison which....doesn't mean that much. but...it's a film that I'm sure made us huge fans of that mythology as we grew up.

Yeah, all those movies helped get me into Greek mythology. Jason and the Argonauts in particular.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I remember seeing the flick and after that I was HUGE into mythology of the Greek type. Add in that when people paint those gods they look badass. And when GoW came out..it was the same thing as when I was a kid. It made the gods badass again. *sigh* I love Greek Mythology.

"Clash of the Head of Greek chick who was cursed for allowing herself to be seduced by Poseidon in Athena's temple and a Scandinavian Sea Monster" just doesn't roll off the tongue.

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

In what way was Medusa a Titan? According to the myths they were all about the size of the Kraken. Medusa was merely an immortal.

'Clash' might have been a huge impact on me in terms of mythology, but it was Harryhausen's 'Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger' that really rocked my world

on a different but slightly same topic, History Channel had a great series called 'Clash of the Gods'

the DVD/bluray comes out March 16th

Re: Clash of the Titans remake..

I'm hoping that this will cause studios to make some movies based on Greek mythology. Comic book films seem to be running their course, anime may be picking up, but there are a lot of stories that could be told about mythology.
