Yup, nifty first hour of setup, and then the film just peters out to an all-too-predictable conclusion, with clumsily staged sentiment to draw on the emotional heartstrings in the end.

I give it 2.5 stars, or a grade of C+.

I really enjoyed it, it made up for Godzilla (I havent seen The Patriot and dont think i ever will).

It was cheesy fun where the actors knew they were in a cornball movie and just enjoyed themselves.

The effects have to be some of the best I seen to date.

Id give it a solid 'B+' with a 'A' for Visual Effects.

They should of renamed this movie to "I want those 2 hours of my life back!". I went in to this movie with very low expectations, and it didn't even meet those. I only thought there were two decent CG scenes (
Spoiler:
tornados in LA, and wave in New York
), and a horrible, horrible script. The dialogue was one of the worst things ever. The story was rip off of every other disaster movie, merged into this one. Everything was very predicable, and the overall plot was a complete joke.
I was hoping it would be bad in a really cheesy way, but man, I was in pain. The disaster couldn't of been more lame,
Spoiler:
a big snow storm, wow
.

I give this 4 steaming piles of shit, out of 5.

Why would you waste your money on a movie you didn't think would be that good?

Simply to see the CG effects, and for the reason I stated before, the 'cheese' factor.

I also usually go in to see a lot of movies with low expectations, just for the fact that it sometimes helps me enjoy the movie more. Some movies get hyped up so much, they never live up to my expectations.

I agree. They weren't as bad as some others made them out to be. I was expecting The Scorpion King-bad CGI.

I plan on seeing it sometime this weekend. I'm not surprised at the responces but I'm a little nervous because I really hate to waste the dough on a movie I may not like, especially since the previews have built up quite an expectation for this movie.

I knew this movie was going to a SFX movie, but could not believe the script and plot, and sub-plots- Utter crap. The audience I was with was laughing and it was suppose to be the most serious moments.- I had certificates to use so I don't feel so bad- just wasted over 2 hours. Save your $ watch the HBO special or the trailer for the FX.

I'm shocked...I actually kinda liked this. It wasn't near as dumb as the worst movie this year, Van Helsing.

Just saw it - it was a typical disaster movie complete with a lone scientist who discovers the problem and tries to warn people and the president blowing him off etc... and then family members struggling to reach each other. BLah blah blah. The effects were good and it was fairly entertaining, but I still think Emmerich sucks balls.

I saw it today. I'd say it was as bad as Godzilla was. I had low expectations but it was just awful! This movie jumped the shark at least 4 times during the movie. There's only so much belief I can suspend. It makes Armageddon look like Citizen Kane.

I went to the matinee showing and didn't think it was that bad. I didn't expect much going into it. For me, I thought Troy was worst than Days After Tmr. It was worth the matinee price to see the SFX on big screen. It's summer time and these movies aren't going to be nominated for any oscars.

Just came back from it. It was a below average summer flick. Not worth the 9.25.

I knew the premise before walking into the theatre and I thought to myself. If all this world climate changing stuff was actually happen, how would they stop it? Of course I was assuming they WOULD stop it somehow since it is a big budget summer movie and all.

Spoilers about the ending follow:
Spoiler:
It was a bullshit ending because out of nowhere the new ice age decided that it didn't want to happen. This is what doomed the movie IMO. You can't resolve this problem. You can't drop bombs or fight them like in ID4. The only logical ending would have been to kill of everyone and have the new ice age. Also the father walked from Philadelphia to New York. This is not an easy walk if it was 60 degrees and sunny. Its impossible in the conditions they were in. Also when they were running away from the freezing when they were in the eye of the storm. How do you run away from something like that. And why did it stop because it got into that room. It should've frozen everything and everyone and even that fire. I didn't even care about the global warming stuff leading to the crazy weather. I know its a movie and they have to bend the truth but it was the ridiculousness of everything else made it stupid.

Let me just say this... there was a great roar of laughter from the audience as the people were fleeing into Mexico over the border. Everyone was clapping, yelling and laughing uncontrollably.

Best part of the movie...

... but remember, I live in South Texas!

Over all I agree with everyone who said the movie was like the storm, started off strong and then pittered out towards the end.

There was however one thing that I didn't like and that was the scene that ripped straight out of Vertical Limit... those who saw the movie know what I am talking about.

Just got back from a late screening of this. I enjoyed it, but I really had to turn off my logical thinking skills. I agree with the critic on RT that said it would've been a much better film if they had abandoned attempts to establish characters altogether and just had an entire movie documenting the world getting trashed.

The disaster stuff was great. The non-disaster action sequences were okay, but so derivative of other movies. Not only Vertical Limit as mentioned above, but the
Spoiler:
wolf
scene seemed like a ripoff of
Spoiler:
the baby 'zilla scene at the end of Godzilla, which itself was a ripoff of the raptor scene from Jurassic Park
. The character stuff in between was routine and often schmaltzy. Plus a lot of characters doing stupid things...
Spoiler:
you go outside from your high rise and see taxis half submerged in water, so you wander down the street to see if maybe it's not so flooded there? Or what? How could they think there was any way to escape the city at that point? I honestly didn't get what they were doing there.

I hated the "slow freeze" scenes... the idea of the freezing cold
Spoiler:
creeping down the skyscrapers as the heroes rush to get back in the library
was just stupid. What was really aggrevating is that they had so many great storylines that could have been explored upon based on events in the movie...
Spoiler:
the various 'sets' of survivors in NY; how the events were affecting areas like the Middle East, Africa, etc.; the conflicts between the Americans and the Mexicans below the border...

Part of me almost thinks this would have worked better as a mini series or maybe even a regular series covering the long term effects, but I suppose a tv budget wouldn't allow the great visuals.

I liked it well enough. I wouldn't give it a glowing review, but if someone said they were interested in seeing it, I certainly wouldn't try to dissuade them. It isn't as if the trailers played this movie up as anything besides a special effects ride.

It was bad. But it wasn't van helsing bad, I was entertained and I could laugh at it. Since I will most likely be able to buy it for 10 bucks new on release day I'll pick it up when it's on dvd.

the visuals of Los Angeles and New York were enough for me to watch those scenes a couple of times.

Goat3001, you along with Knight76 and apparently others seem to be completely missing this. The ice age DID happen.
Spoiler:
At the end of the movie when the astronauts were looking at earth from the space station almost the entire northern hemisphere was covered IN ICE.

I liked the first act. Yeah it was thin character-wise, but the CG was impressive and it set the table nicely.

Then it slowed to a crawl. That's fine, but you can't do it with one-dimentional characters. By the time act three started, I was rooting for the cold.

I didn't read this entire thread, so forgive me if someone already complained about this...

Spoiler:
I was really bugged how no one seemed to ever get emotional about how many people acutally died in the film. Pretty much all of LA and New York was wiped out, yet no one was crying about loved ones.

In fact, the only family member that was mentioned was Sam in NY. The Vice President seemed surprised that he would know someone in NYC. GIVE ME A BREAK! I would say virtually EVERYONE knows at least someone in either NY or LA that they would be concerned about!

I did notice that but when they said the clouds were dispersing I assumed that it didn't happen. Besides I wouldn't say I completely missed it since there was so much other bullshit that made this movie ridiculous

I haven't seen this film yet but is it better or worse than Independenc Day? Both films look fairly the same and is directed by the same person. I disliked ID4 so I probably won't like this film. Is this a correct assumption? Thanks.

If you liked ID4, you'll like Day After Tomorrow.

If you hated ID4, you'll hate Day After Tomorrow.
