Spoiler:
The destruction is fairly constant at the start and slowly dwindles off till the tidal wave hits the city. Then its just all snow and bugger all else. Its basically the same format as Armaggedon, in that every now and then the scene changes to an extra you know is gunna die.

more on the ending

Spoiler:

The ending is a little weak for all the build up. The super storms disscussed in the movie just dissipate and its all over. I know there isnt really alot human kind can do to stop an ice age but it was all over in 1 minute. All of a sudden a guy says on screen the storm appears to be easing and lo and behold crisis over.

I just saw the flick and I had a great time. Emmerich is the master of disaster and he really tears some shit up in this one. Sure, the big money shots are in the trailer, and only the first hour sees a lot of destruction, but I was still on the edge of my seat for the entire time and really enjoyed the flick. Cheesy as hell in some parts, but I love a good disaster flick. Emmerich fans should definitely check this one out!

Just got back from the midnight screening.

This was my most anticipated movie of the summer.

Complete and utter garbage. Not Van Helsing bad. But pretty bad. The audience was laughing at the screen at all the wrong places. It was contrived. It was cliched. Poorly written (and I'm not talking about scientific fact. I'm talking dialogue). VERY poorly acted.
Maybe worth a rental. Very disappointed.

Read the story over at IMDB about Gyllenhall, he apparently says that he forced them to change some of his dialogue...He said he would show up some days and tell them "PEOPLE DON'T TALK LIKE THIS".

Ebert gave this 3 stars. Now it's really going to suck.

Saw it last night and it was exactly what I thought it would be. Good popcorn flick, if you turn your brain off. The first one minute of this movie was better than all of Van Helsing

The SFX were wonderful (minus the wolves, wtf were they thinking?!?!). The acting was subpar, but tolerable. Jake Gylenhall was awesome. No hot chicks or boobies Plenty of earth smashing and f**king up society. Like I said, it was fun and entertaining.

Exactly my point...... if you check out rottentomatoes.com, the cream of the crop critics are mixed with alot of them in favor of the movie.

Another Emmerich film featuring a dire end to Lady Liberty. I'm actually looking forward to seeing this (if only for it's unintentional comedic value).

I think Ebert is mellowing with time. He absolutely trashed Godzilla but he liked The Day after Tomorrow. He finally got it. With a little more mellowing, maybe one day he'll think twice before giving four stars to ultra-violent films but that's just me hopin'.

I read a story where in a NY screening, people were actually cheering at some points while the city was being decimated. If New Yorkers can have fun at Emmerich destroying their city all over again post-9/11, I'm giving it a chance.

The Day after tomorrow

Saw this movie today, special effects are tremendous but the science behind this is goofy, NO scientific basis at all, if Alley Hector falls for this she must also believe in the tooth fairy.

A natural disaster movie brought to you by a guy who thought it was a good idea to have an Alien computer link up to a Mac to give it a virus to save the world.

This is gonna have to be scientifically accurate.

Why don't you believe that's possible? Are you a Mac hating PC user??

I'm planing to see this tonight. I think it'll be a fun movie and I like Emmerich's stuff. But, on the HBO first look (at least I think it was HBO) one thing that really bugged me and I'm not looking forward to seeing is...
Spoiler:
One shot where a guy in a helicopter (I think) opens the door to get out, and instantly turns into a popsickle

Just seemed pretty dumb. But we'll see tonight I guess...

Knight76 - I think you may have missed a few points.
Spoiler:
The scientists were saying all along that the Super Storm was going to last 7-10 days and be over. And, it wasn't crisis over at the end of the movie. When the astronauts were viewing earth from the space station most of the northern hemisphere was covered in ice.

Necros - 150 degrees below zero just might do that to a person.

no, it's just stupid to think that advanced aliens would be using TCP/IP, Appletak, serial ports or anything Mac's could have used for networking in 1996.

Just got back from seeing the movie. Lots of turnout for this flick. I went to a 2:30 showing and it was almost full. This movie will ring in some big money. I expect a substantial dropoff though next weekend.

Visuals Cool looking Twisters and the Tidal Wave that destroys the Yankees...err New York. Yes this movies trailer basically shows all the money shots. This is the whole draw of the movie. They could have been better in some areas though. The Hail Storms that happend were tepid at best. I'm mean there are HUGE chunks of Ice Dropping yet they have no impact. Perhaps it was my theaters sound system but they didn't move me. Those who have seen Hail Storms much smaller can attest to the damage they can cause. Dimpled cars, broken windows and concussions.

Acting Poor Jake. He has to carry this movie but the scenes are just drab and lifeless. He has no areas where he can show great frustration or really show his skill. There is one scene ripped right from Vertical Limit that could have been more powerful.

I would recommend this movie simply because the effects will look their best on a big screen. I recommend a matinee though if you don't like blowing money. This movie simply is unfocused at first leaving too many loose ends. It really needed a better screenplay and direction.

Saw it this afternoon, special effects decent, but otherwise a boring and lifeless movie. Jake looked like he wanted to be somewhere else during the movie, and the plot was pretty pointless.

This is about as good as Godzilla. While leaving the theatre, many people were mutting how bad it was, and a few people actually left during the movie.
