http://www.apple.com/trailers/fox_se..._dynamite.html

ill be at the emeryville screening. look for the tall 6'6" dude with the shorty wife and yuck it up with me!

Jackskeleton 05-18-04 01:59 AM

Though I enjoyed it, it really wasn't all that LOL funny. sure it had it's moments of comedy. Just hope you dont have your hopes up high as it's a sort of indie humor.

Supermallet 05-18-04 02:12 AM

I never laughed at the trailer. In fact, every time I see it, I cringe. I'll go watch Rushmore again.

Caliking 05-18-04 04:00 PM

wow! looks funny to me...but my humor is seriously different than most. oh well, sorry nobody else cares for it. i think im gonna find this one hilarious.

jacksekelton, is indie humor not good. i tend to like that humor better than what is available in most movies (ie didnt care for the mainstreamer like american pie, etc)

Jackskeleton 05-18-04 08:32 PM

No, don't get me wrong, I love indie humor. But it's a different breed of humor.

Take for example Lost in translation, Rushmore, Royal Teenibaums, etc. It's funny, but in a different way. from all those Napolean Dynamite wasn't as great as those others though it still had that dry humor layed in there.

spinning plates 05-20-04 03:58 PM

this movie looks awesome.. kinda reminds me of welcome to the dollhouse.

Tarantino 05-20-04 05:09 PM

I'm waaaaay looking forward to this one. I love the type of humor and have my hopes way up.

Matthew Chmiel 05-20-04 06:25 PM

They're showing this twice during CineVegas in a few weeks. I can't wait.

Rival11 05-20-04 06:30 PM

That was a pretty damn funny trailer - seems like it will be filled with a lot of subtle humor (best kind IMO).

Caliking 06-03-04 12:05 AM

this movie was hilarious! i saw it tonight and laughed my ass off the entire time. i wasn't expecting it to be that good thanks to jackskeleton...i ended up loving it. im going to the other screenings in sacramento now too.

mdc3000 06-03-04 12:11 AM

I saw it a few nights ago and loved it... hilarious... the guy who plays Napoleon is a genius... and his brother was also brilliant... I'm going to another screening on Saturday afternoon... I can't wait... go check out this movie!

"A friggin' twelve gauge, what do you think!?"

Just doing my part. ;)

steebo777 06-03-04 06:58 AM

Saw this last night, and was surprised by how much I enjoyed it. It had me laughing out loud really hard much of the time. The audience seemed to be really into it as well. It made my night last night.

Catch 21 06-09-04 05:51 AM

I just did a screening of this in UC Irivine. A few Inside jokes, however I thought it is very funny.
I recommend this movie

If you liked "Welcome to the Dollhouse", "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind " and "The Wonder Years"

Blake 06-13-04 02:47 AM

Great stuff...though...what's the point?

I laughed quite a bit during the movie, but you just come out of it wondering...why?

Very funny. Recommended.

atlantamoi 06-13-04 05:32 PM

(might wanna change the thread title since it's misspelled... for people who do a search on this baby)

Saw it yesterday at an advance screening and loved it. At the very least it's worth a rental. I can see someone not getting into it, but there were many moments I was laughing like a loon. Some of my fave flicks are of offbeat goofballs (see "American Movie")

SPiRAL 06-13-04 06:34 PM

This movie was great. Kip rules ! I just signed up for the 8-week Rexkwando class.

Fielding Mellish 06-13-04 07:38 PM

Does Elvis Costello get a piece of this flick?

Giantrobo 06-13-04 09:28 PM

can someone tell why that girl with the pony tail pulled to the side looked so weird? The one that asked about he "liger".

She looks like they shot her on different film stock or she was editied in later. OR at least she did in the trailer.

I have no clue what you are talking about.

I read somewhere that the writer/director wasn't even aware of the Costello reference. I can't remember where he said he got the name from.

cdollaz 06-14-04 11:29 AM

I loved the part where the school bus drove by the cow.

Do you suppose anybody actually believes that?

Actually you can read the interview where he says he never knew about the Costello reference right here..

CS!: Where did the name come from?
Hess: I was a Mormon missionary in Venezuela and in Chicago for two years when I was 19. In Chicago, I met an old Italian guy, who came over and his name was Napoleon Dynamite. I wrote it down since that was the freshest name I've ever heard. We shot the film in July of 2003 and two days before we wrapped, one of our extras was like "Yeah, so is this named after Elvis Costello's alias name on one of his albums?" I got online that night after we wrapped and found out that there was an album in 1986, where he used that name. Had I known that before I shot it, I probably would have changed the name. It was an interesting coincidence because I'm not a Costello fan.

Amel 06-14-04 04:56 PM

This movie looks hilarious. That "sweet jumps" scene had me choking on my drink. This looks a lot like the stupid crap my friends and I come up with that we think is funny but everyone else thinks it's just stupid crap.

Gamblor187 06-14-04 09:09 PM

Gasp!

No Elvis Costello fan = No Sale! ;)

For anyone who went to the advanced screenings, what t-shirt did they give away ?

Was it Pedro For President ?

Jackskeleton 06-17-04 12:19 AM

it may have also been Ligers shirt.

There are two t-shirts that I have. One is the 'Vote For Pedro' shirt that Napolean wears in the movie. The other says a bunch of crap about voting for Summer. They both say 'Napoleon Dynamite - In theaters Summer 2004' on the back.

scott shelton 06-17-04 01:48 PM

First THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA, and now this.

Two films this year that I've wanted to walk out on.

Who thinks this film is funny, and please gimme an idea why you do. Comedy is subjective, and I need some subjectiving...

theneobez 06-17-04 04:17 PM

thanks for your opinion scott kthnxbai

So I take it you didn't like it...?

This film will devide a great deal. there will be those who like it and there will be those who HATE it. I was on the fence. during the film I was a little bored at times. the pacing is off some and you ask yourself why. Then during the mid way point I just let myself sit back and try to enjoy it. Not care all that much about it and just let it sit. After that point I really did start enjoying it. the comedy was there in random points and I stopped questioning what was going on and just enjoyed it. I can see why some folks may dislike it with a passion, but I can see why some will enjoy it some. I'll say it again, this is Indie humor. not for everyone and very dry at times.

Has anyone seen a photo of what Jon Heder REALLY looks like?

http://images.usatoday.com/life/_pho...der-inside.jpg

It's like Charlize. A nice looking person who frightens himself/herself up.

I completely agree Jack. The humor in it is very subjective. To me, if you don't laugh at the opening shot of the film, then you probably won't like it. I myself laughed my ass off during the opening shot :)

Sunday Morning 06-19-04 10:34 AM

I loved it. Best film so far this year.

Matthew Chmiel 06-19-04 12:50 PM

I have a question. For those of you who have attended the free screenings, does Fox Searchlight give you an e-mail or anything or do you just show up at the theater box office and ask to see the film?

Amel 06-19-04 12:53 PM

Does anyone have a release dates list for each city? I can't get into the official site. And everywhere else I've looked only lists June 11th.
Thanks.

Neuman 06-21-04 01:06 PM

I also loved it, saw it at the Sunshine on E.Houston a few weeks back. I was laughing the whole time.

"There are a lot of gangs at this school. This one gang kept trying to get me to join because I'm pretty good with a bowstaff."

steebo777 06-21-04 01:16 PM

I've got tons of skills.
