Tombstone is more of a kickass gun fest, while Wyatt Earp actually tells the story of the man. I prefered Val Kilmer over Dennis Quaid as Holiday but other than that Wyatt Earp is the better of the two.

Wyatt Earp is so much better (and the director's cut available on laserdisc is better than the theatrical cut). It makes Tombstone look juvenile.

Wyatt Earp could have been a great film in better hands, but it is still very much worth the watch when in the mood for a long, detailed biopic.
I love the ending, btw. That was the perfect way to close the story.

Count me in as another person who loves both...Just picked up the 2 disc SE on Tuesday..Have both the original release of Tombstone and the Vista Series
Wyatt Earp is a lot more historically accurate than Tombstone...As was said Costner's portrayal of Earp was more true than Russell's. Wyatt Earp was documented as one nasty, cold SOB. The film focuses on Earp's entire life, shows how he became what he is. The Dodge City scenes are some of the highlights of the movie.
Tombstone is what it is, a brief look at Earp's and his brother's lives before and after Tombstone. It does have a more notable cast, and is more flashy than Wyatt Earp.
I know I'm in the minority here, but to me Quaid's Doc Holliday was a lot better than Kilmer's.
Both films have great soundtracks as well.
I say pick it up.
