The title of this thread should probably include the word spoiler somewhere too. Granted, 99% of the people who frequent this forum have probably seen it already, but it would piss me off if I hadn't, and I had a major portion of the movie spoiled for me.

Well the thread title is "Question about Fight Club...." so someone that hasn't seen the movie really has no reason to click on the thread as they obviously aren't going to be able to answer any questions about a movie they haven't seen.

Originally, when this thread was in the DVD Talk thread, I actually thought it was yet another question about the Fight Club DVD (such as the OOP status of the 2 disc version, etc). Now that it's in Movie Talk, it's more clear that it's about the movie and not the DVD, so it's a moot point. BTW, I did recognize the , so I'm just explaining my thought process when I posted, not being defensive.

At any rate, to get back on-topic, I've got two things to add:

It was the Tyler side of his personality that blew up the condo. So, the way I understand it, the Tyler side was just trying to force the "Ikea-boy" side to meet the Tyler side and to get back to a more basic style of life and to gradually make him more and more like the Tyler side.

Also, as far as Project Mayhem, the short-term goal of blowing up the buildings was definitely to erase the debt record. However, I think there was a bigger overall vision to the whole thing. There's that scene where the Edward Norton side wakes up (I think it's right after the car accident) and the Tyler side is telling him how he envisions the future of man-kind as laying strips of venison on the pavement, and climbing the vines that have grown over the skyscrapers. From that scene (among other stuff), I think that the Tyler side's ultimate goal, is for man-kind to live a more primitive, hunter & gatherer lifestyle.

"And why were they in the buildings? They wanted to commit suicide? Trying to prove a point that there was nothing worth living for in this world?"

to answer this point, from what i recall, the building they were in wasn't set to blow up. they were there to watch it all go down.

I think you just red flagged yourself with every major law enforcement agency in the country with that comment.

I am a free thinker and think about as much of law enforcement as I do Credit corporations.I don't think enjoying the idea of their demise is illegal in America.I could care less if they waste their time with me.Thanks though

Dang it!!!

You TOTALLY just ruined the movie for me. May as well not even see it, now.

Spoiler:
BTW, in the book, he/they ARE in a wired building, so as TO commit suicide. However, nothing blows up, due to a parrafin wax snafu, and he/they end up in an insane asylum. Marla really does have cancer. Project Mayhem continues, vowing to free Tyler. Much better ending, IMO. Admins say, "Moving to book talk." How's that for a spoiler?

Yeah, but Chuck likes the movie ending better. So do I, really. It's more pointed.

fight club questions (contains spoilers without tags)

just watched the movie today, and have a few questions
i noticed very early on that there are several flashes here and there. is it a problem or are those supposed to be something.
when Tyler mentions all of the rules of fight club, one of the rules is "all competitors that fight must be shirtless", but when Bob (meat loaf), fights there, his shirt is on, why?
at the end of the movie, the narrator shoots himself in the mouth with a gun, so i guess he could kill the image of Tyler, but how does he live? i would think that a bullet through the mouth would kill instantly.

The imdb is your friend.

A bullet through the cheek would not kill someone instantly.

The flashes were Tyler.

Do we need to see Bob's bitch tits? Plus I think it would be an unfair disadvantge for Bob to have his breasts bouncing around.

It didn't hit his brain at all, bounced off his jaw actually, check the slow mo. He certainly will lose a lot of blood. Also, it's just a movie.

1) You apparently didn't watch the movie well enough. Go watch it again.

2) It was in everyone's best interests to hide the bitch tits. As long as his opponent agreed, the rules were waived.

3) A cheek is nothing but tissue. Piercing it is no big deal. The only question would be the gas dynamics of a gun firing into an enclosed space ... I think it would be quite survivable.

so in order for me to see the subliminal "penis" shots, i would have to do a slow mo on the dvd i guess? also, all movie rules that i know of is that if you are shot through the mouth in any way, they die.

Actually, no. They are incredibly easy to see and fully discern at regular speed with the naked eye. And only one of them is a penis.

Wow rypro.. really.. wow. the questions are already answered. I would have thought by now everyone would have been through fight club.

Even in my first viewing I saw tyler in the flashes. Just so you know, the penis at the end is suppose to be there. No one spliced a porn into the dvd while you weren't looking

Movie rules also state that if you are the hero of the film you can take a bullet or two while the bad guys can't.

i did here his conversation about what he does (splices bits of porn into family movies since he is a projectionist at a movie theater. btw, which of the commentaries are best to listen to, since i might listen to one of them tonight.

Okay, so if he shot himself in the mouth and survived, why did Tyler Durden die? Was it because Jack WANTED to end the alterate personality's life? (Tyler Durden).
