Don't get me wrong, I'm still probably gonna see this, I just know what my expectations are.

Well, obviously if you thought the comic was boring and don't like Zack Snyder then your expectations will be low. Watchmen is one of my favorite comics and I loved 300, so my expectations are reasonably higher.

I'm not sure how. It's rated "R" for a reason. There won't be many parents willing to take their kids to see this movie, certainly I'd think twice about taking my 13-15yr old to see it if it has the amount of graphic violence I think it will have.

You mean like the general audience that is going to see this movie?

I think for this movie to be a success it will need more than all those mature, sophisticated Little Children fans.

OK, so here's the rooftop rescue from the comic:

I'm hoping for the sake of this movie being the least bit successful in any artistic sense that these clips are edited to favor the action and that the scene in the final film won't be so devoid of wit, or realism, or drama.

No, I'm right. When people are talking about "name actors" it's referring to people the general audience will recognize. I guess the definition is different for you film snob types.

Sorry man, but you're way wrong on this one. Look at Jackie Earle Haley's recent filmography:

Winged Creatures
Semi-Pro
All the King's Men
Little Children

The one most audiences will have seen is Semi-Pro and he had a tiny part in that. Sure, he got an Oscar nomination for Little Children, but it made $5 million at the box office.

Patrick Wilson's film resume isn't any more recognizable to the general public. He's been great in things like Hard Candy, but that's hardly the kind of film that makes someone a name actor.

Wilson and Haley are both great actors, but they are not name actors by any means.

It seems like Watchmen fans will be very very happy with the Director's Cut of the dvd, especially with the ending of the film:

Ever since I was a kid i've loved the whole Watchmen concept. I wasn't a huge fan of 300, but the Watchmen film looks promising. I can only hope that Snyder won't over slow mo it.

This movie will make massive amounts of money. Fans will see it. Regular moviegoers will see it, because it's the next big interesting film coming to theaters. Smart people will love go see it and stupid uneducated people will see it. Watchmen will rack in dough the whole first month, which will then be seriously overtaken by Monsters vs Aliens.

I'm actually glad there changing the ending. It gives the veiwers who have read the novel a little surprise so there not just watching the movie feeling like it's old news. Plus i've never been a fan of the ending anyway.

I think it'll have a huge front loaded opening weekend and then will have a big drop the following week. I'm not sure the general public is up for what's effectively a 2+ hour superhero art film. I hope I'm wrong though, would love to see it do well.

My worries no matter how hyped I am are that the trailers are superior to the film. This is what happened to me with 300. The trailers were so badass that the film couldn't live up to it. And the fact that the Queen got a whole subplot really dragged 300 for me. Everything else was peachy though..

Re: Zack Snyder talks Watchmen

I'll see it opening weekend, but I doubt it'll have legs. I predict a pretty big drop the next weekend, and it'll quietly move on to DVD/Blu-ray, where it will sell very well.

Did you read the CHUD article that AICN quotes?
Spoiler:
"...eagle eyed moviegoers will realize that Zack DID keep the squid. Just maybe not in the way you might expect.
In the film Adrian Veidt and Dr. Manhattan are working together on a project that will replicate Manhattan's energy, providing free and unlimited power to the world. That project? SQUID, the logo for which is briefly visible.
"I'm glad you caught that," Zack said when I complimented him on getting the squid in the movie. And what does SQUID stand for? 'Sub QUantum Intrinsic Device.'"

Sounds more like a little detail for us fanboys than anything substantial.

I hate it when the trailers are better then the movie. But the type of trailers that there making today can make any movie look good.

What was the most recent really good, mainstream film that was really long and didn't do financially well? Ever since the Lord of the Rings films, I don't remember people really complaining about the length of a really good film that's too long. The last really long, really good movie that didn't make massive amounts of money that I can think of was There Will Be Blood, but that's not a mainstream-type film like Watchmen is.

Why does everyone keep on calling this an art film? It's just a superhero film that deals with dark and grey characters and important themes. The last time I noticed, that's the trend in superhero movies now. Watchmen would be an art superhero film if it was released during the days of bad superhero movies.

Watchmen was marketed as a superhero movie just like The Dark Knight. I don't think The Dark Knight is a typical superhero movie - it's like The Departed with Batman - that's what's so great about the film.

The only reason that WATCHMEN wouldn't make tons of money is if it sucks.

Patrick Wilson, Nite Owl, was also in Little Children along with Haley. Wilson was the hunky Dad. Jefferey Dean Morgan, The Comedian, was/is on Grey's Anatomy.

Either way, I think the actors cast in this film are at the right level of "stardom" for this film. Not too big, but not totally unknown.

It really doesn't come off as artsy though, and most superhero flicks run in excess of 2 hours (all 3 Spider-man flicks, X2, both of the new Batman movies (with TDK being 2hrs 32m), V for Vendetta (which wasn't as financially successful as the others), Iron Man, etc; ) So I don't really see Watchmen as an exception.

Source?

Seems strange they would eliminate 80% of their market.

From a screening last night

"By far the highlight of the film is the opening credits," he begins. "It perfectly nails the surrealist tone of the graphic novel and does an adequate job of running through some of the back story of the Watchmen. It's so good I'm half-convinced that director Zack Snyder had little to do with this sequence. Because that's where the surrealism ends.

"The rest of Watchmen basically alternates between campy silliness and 2nd-rate comic book melodrama. At some points on the level of live-action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I assume Snyder was trying to hit that sweet spot of surrealism that accompanies the alternate 1985 reality of the graphic novel, but the kindest thing I can call it is a kind of tragedy/campy combo.

yeah that's what I thought. Still a long time before Blu kills DVD.

Also visually the movie looks fantastic but...the clips I put up didn't really sell me the acting. Looks kinda...uh..boring. Also they've switched locations for some scenes and characters too. So much for
Spoiler:
Veidt and Rorschach having a talk....how sad.
