Most of the video blogs I've seen, whenever they show a slate, they're usually shooting at 100fps - which is slo-mo. I'd wager that 10% of the movie is probably the amount we'll actually see... Snyder loves the technique and while he might not use it here as much as he did on 300, from the looks of the trailer, I'm pretty sure there will be quite a bit in the movie....keep in mind 300 had like 60% slo-mo, so when ZS says 'Not a ton', it's not the same as someone else saying it.

Agree. The first trailer looked epic, 2nd looked liked a 90's pre Spider-man or X-men comic movie.

Just notice something...but in everything we've seen for Watchmen we each character's face. Masked and unmasked (discounting Spectre and Doc M)....though we haven't seen Rorschach. Are they planning to keep his mask on the whole time? It's something I just noticed. I mean for a trailer's purpose I guess a Masked Rorschach is always better but do we see his real face at all

considering who they cast for the role...i'd have to say yes. jackie haley is one ugly dude.

Solid Snake 11-15-08 11:13 AM

Yeah, but Rorschach wasn't all that great himself in the comic. I wonder if they've taken out the psychiatrist and Rorschach part...

kstublen 11-15-08 01:40 PM

I believe Snyder said that Rorscach's back story was intact. So I wouldn't be surprised if the pyschatrist is in the movie. I am sure he will have his mask removed at some point in the movie. My guess is that in these two scenes especially the mask will be off:

Spoiler:
Either by the cops when he is trying to escape (where he screams "Give me back my face") or in the end before Dr. Manhattan kills him, when he takes it off.

If you've read the book, you'll know that Rorschach's unmasking is a big part of the story, and it's sort of a surprise as to who he is. It's a whole big scene in the book, so it appears they're trying to keep the mystery surrounding him intact for the general audience.

Trailer 2 in general has a huge case of ADD (how many different musical soundtracks do we hear in it?), starting to worry the movie will be one big case of Snyder jitter-stop camerarama. This movie doesn't need the "300" treatment, it needs to have space to breathe a bit. Still, planning on seeing it of course!

I liked the music ... what is it, Phillip Glass and Muse?

Agree about Doctor Manhattan's voice, though. He sounded too "human." The impression I got from the book was that his voice sounded different, what with the blue-colored word balloons.

As for having a team named "Watchmen" when there wasn't one in the book, I have a feeling that Snyder is having an actual team called "The Watchmen," which was active during the pre-Keane Act years consisting of all the main hero characters. It's an effective short-cut to give all of the characters a common past, and the plot device is also useful in the 1985-era, where it looks like someone is out hunting down the members of the defunct Watchmen team. Doesn't seem like a huge deal; when adapting large novels into movies, certain things have to be cut and condensed.

I haven't ever read the comics or anything, but is he Patrick Wilson? His voice sounds like him.

No.

Not sure about the trailer. The whole Christian Bale/Batman voice over by Rorshach is really killing it for me. Whenever I read the comic, I always heard a flat, David Duchovny-like monotone. This cookie monster bullshit is painful.

Patrick Wilson plays the second Nite Owl.

Me too.

See I always kinda heard like what the trailer shows us. I mean those voice bubbles for Rorschach weren't clean so I never assumed he had a good clean voice...

toddly6666 11-16-08 09:54 PM

Can someone please confirm the Trailer 2 music?

I think it definitely started as Philip Glass then merged to...what?

Awesome trailer and music by the way!

The 2nd half is Take a Bow by Muse.

yeah, i always interpreted Rorshach voice was altered when he spoke. He was really trying hard to conceal his identity, so speaking with a forced growl is believable.

But Dr. Manhattan talking like a normal dude? I didn't see that coming. Maybe they'll alter it for the final movie. I always expected his voice to sound deep, hollow, and ominous.

Not sure about hollow and ominous, but definitely deep and completely emotionless.

So is the running time still (rumored) around 2 hrs and 30 mins?

Bet Snyder could knock it down to 2 hrs if he left out all the freakin' slow motion.

chris_sc77 11-23-08 04:09 PM

IMDB has the official run time locked down at 163 minutes.

Solid Snake 11-23-08 08:16 PM

There's no fucking way. As much as I would want that...there's no way for that to be true. Maybe his full WATCHMEN cut...but still wtf that is awesome if so. Whole Novel in there for sure...

He could knock it to 1 hr, because even the studio logos at the beginning and the credits at the end will be in slow motion.

Which isn't a particularly jarring segueway, since the intro to "Take a Bow" is very Glass-esque anyway.

and "Tales of the Black Freighter" (not counting the separate release)

I'm still holding out hope that this will be good, but the squid really should have been included. :(
