I'm concerned on the language warning on the rating; I don't recall the graphic novel being profanity heavy; I'm hoping they didn't throw in a bunch of profanity for the sake of being "hip."

From the new trailer,
what's that scene during the day with stuff falling from the sky (it looked like big chunks of confetti) in which it looks like cops are looking up?

You mean at about 1:31 to 1:33? Whoever the uniformed guys are, they're all looking up at Dr. Manhattan in the sky, so maybe it's
Spoiler:
the surrender of the Vietcong? Looks like falling debris to me.

I can just imagine it.

I'm really torn. I loved the graphic novel, instantly proclaimed it to the best novel I've ever read. But I haven't read it in like 15 years now, so I'm sure that when I read/see it again it will largely be new to me. I can almost completely forget anything I read/see and enjoy it (or hate it) again the next time.

I'm dying to read it again, like today, but would also love to be completely surprised in a movie theater.

May wait for the movie, and then read it afterwards.

A huge change in the ending of Watchmen supposedly...

http://www.iwatchstuff.com/2008/10/d...ifferently.php

Wow...that would not make sense and would totally change the reaction of ending for one of the characters. It could work maybe..but him joining up and doing it...just goes against his against his persona overall.

I thought the fact they changed the ending was common knowledge?

The original /Film article mentioned in your link has since been updated and corrected. I would seem that whoever was at the screening and posting about it at the IMDB got names or events mixed up. Changing the specifics of the ending would be alright with me, though:
Spoiler:
Ozymandias' "scary fake inter-dimensional alien cloned from a dead psychic's brain" plan didn't work for me in '87 and I don't think it would work now. As long as the ultimate purpose of his plan is intact, I don't think making the events themselves more believable would hurt the story.

Really? I don't think there's a chance this does anywhere near Dark Knight numbers, let alone start setting records. At most I'd guess is 300 type numbers, and I don't think this movie is as visually striking as that one was to attract regular audiences.

I didn't know. Although I thought the end of the actual comic was kind of silly.

I think it's from the Comedian's funeral.

I've also gotta disagree here. Sure, it looks awesome and I'll definitely be there opening weekend, but don't assume that the excitement of legions of fanboys will be enough to get the general masses into theaters as well. I'd say this'll do $57m opening weekend, $162m domestic/$240m overseas.

I'm loving the new footage. There was a lot in there that wasn't in the original teaser.

I am a big fan of the "graphic novel" and wouldn't mind them changing the
Spoiler:
squid-alien into something a little more believable
, just so long as the outcome with all the characters is the same. I believe Snyder has said that while he did change one aspect of the ending, the story ends up the same, so I think it'll be fine.

And I LOVE that new teaser poster. I have the one from Comic Con, so I need to get this one as well.

Direct links to HD versions of the Spike TV footage:
(I suspect they will be pulled and edited due to a shot of Dr. Manhattan that leaves nothing to the imagination.)

I think the new ending would work better, IMHO. Back when Alan Moore wrote this it was fresh on the heels of comments from Regan saying things along the lines that if there was an extraterrestrial threat that it would unite the nations, so in the context of when the narrative was originally written, it was a decent ending. But this change has more of an impact on what it would probably realistically take for the nations to unite in this day and age. Modernizing it just a bit doesn't bother me in that regard.

When I read some more detailed reports from a recent test screening, my interest in this film dropped dramatically. For the average viewer, changing the ending is no big deal; but for fans who know the graphic novel well, chaning the ending to the degree it's being reported here destroys subplots and essentially two major characters.

I don't know, maybe it's just me, but I don't think the changes to the ending will make it any less effective nor does it sound like it results in major alterations to the characters.

Spoiler:
Although if that's correct, how Doc Manhattan's involvement is actually portrayed will be interesting.

Concerning another character:
Spoiler:
If there's no horrific monster, The Comedian's final descent into madness is far less effective. What could he possibly see now that (a)would drive him mad, (b)be so absurd no one would think twice about it; my fear is Ozymandias' whole reasoning for killing him in the first place is going to change as well.

I think it looks very epic and the only thing that looks kinda silly and cheap is the Dr. Manhattan stuff.

There's just something about the costumes, props, and lighting that seems off. It looks amateurish for some reason. I can't put my finger on it.

A cast largely made up of no names?

Really? Because I'm shocked at how good it looks. It's like they seem to actually care about this project. But I guess everyone sees what they see.

I think I'm also liking the fact that they didn't get big stars for this. I think it would be a bit distracting.

I was at one of the 30 minute screenings and it looked pretty great on the big-screen, definitely not amateurish. And the props are incredible, I mean I've been inside the Owl Ship "prop" which weighs more than a Harrier jet and has working LCD displays all over the place. The eye to detail of Snyder and his crew is impressive.
