What is the Hollywood Stock Exchange?

From the website: “Buy shares of your favorite actors and their new movies. Watch their values rise or fall based on their success. Prices soar with a blockbuster opening at the box office and plummet with a bomb no one went to see.” For those who have never played, the game is as a complicated or as easy as you want to make it (much like the real stock market).

Now, I know several of you already have HSX accounts. To keep things fair, in order to participate in the league you’ll need to start up a new account. Here’s what you need to do to join the league:

1. Go to www.hsx.com and start up a new account.

2. You can use any username you want, although if everybody used the format “DVDTalk_[DVDTalk Username]” it would make things easier to track. For example, if my DVDTalk username was "Stockbroker" my account for the league will be DVDTalk_Stockbroker.

3. When signing up, put down DVDTalk_DRG in the "Did a friend refer you?" column. Feel free to take advantage of any of the special offers and freebies offered at this time as well.

4. After you sign up, go to “Account Information” and set your “Screen Name” to be exactly the same as your screen name here at DVDTalk. This will help avoid confusion.

5. Come back here and post your HSX user name. You need to have a new account, or I won’t add you to the league.

6. Entry into the league is always open...we welcome newcomers!

Rememeber, new players: add today's "Bottom Feeder" (DVDTalk_DRG) as your referral when signing up!

I don't think the leaderboard is fair. It discriminates against those not in the top ten and makes them feel stupid. We should take our lead from school districts around the country who have abolished report cards - we should abolish the leader board.

did you reset or did you keep the high advantage you jumped in with?

I'd be up about 30K right now if I hadn't screwed up and started off with less than everyone else.

What high advantage? I've played before, but this isn't my main port -- that one is user name querl (add it to your league and cower at the might of my massive portfolio!)

Oh geez -- now I remember -- I started trading Wednesday at midnight, instead of waiting until 8 a.m. PST like I was supposed to. But I was actually down for the day by 8 a.m., so I decided not to reset.

There was one person who tossed in there port name and started with an advantage since it was an existing account instead of the 2mil flat that everyone else did. could have been you or I may very well be mistaken. In which case ignore the insane man.

That wasn't me -- that was Oney Temple (user name:JUICE84). I've still got him in my league in case he wants to reset and join the DVD Talk fun.

I did not use the REFER A FRIEND, cause it seems like a cheap way for this kninestyle to make lots of hollywood dollars. not really fair in my opinion. Is that really a must to be on the list?

The "Bottom Feeder" program is completely optional. The idea is to help the player who has the lowest net worth get a little cash revenue and hopefully revitalize his or her portfolio.

The reason I implemented the program was because several people sent referrals my way, which was completely unfair to the point I had to ditch my original port and start from scratch as "Groucho Reloaded." BTW, I still maintain the original, which is now over H$3mil.

Jason, I bow to your superior HSX-ing skills. But then again, you've been playing for a while. I, meanwhile, hadn't even heard of this site until Groucho mentioned it.
