Um, no it ain't flapjack. A Better Tommorow, Bullet in the Head, Hard Boiled, and The Killer are all better. Face/Off plays like John Woo's Greatest Hits. It simply doesn't offer anything overly original or new that we hadn't seen at that point from Woo's films. And Chow Yun Fat's cooler than both those hammy stars combined.

This has a slim chance of actually being good. The nice thing about Metroid is that it's just abstract enough where a really solid story and screenplay could be generated from it...but that would of course require the execs in charge of development not to aim for their mythical lowest common denominator.

Hmmm. Well, Samus will always be cool in my book.

Ah, they should have just stuck with that Alex Proyas guy (of The Crow and Dark City fame) who did the commercial. Woo is just going to F this all up. And I agree they should go with a no-name actress as I would assume the role would not lend itself to much face time, what with the suit and all. But, time will tell.

For the record Face/Off is a spectacular film. Not better than Bullet or The Killer, but it's definately his third best. It's the fullest exploration of Woo's continual theme of doubling, and the simalarities between cop and crook.

I love Metroid to death and I own Face/Off, but this is bad news. It's nearly impossible for Hollywood to make a good Metroid film. They WILL f*** it up, like they do everything else. Let's hope this DOESN'T work out for John Woo, and somebody else who's better makes it.

Make sure you put IMO, otherwise you're just talking non-sense.

Of course I did for God's sake.

Would I really post my opinion above if I hadn't? Hard Boiled is not a very good Woo film. It has fantastic stunts and gunplay but as far as content it's the weakest of the late period HK Woo films.

Leave me alone with your questions. You may ask "Did you even see Hard Boiled?" but you haven't seen Hard Boiled at all. If you hold that film in any terribly high reguard then you don't understand what makes a Woo film good. In his best films Bullet in the Head, Killer, and Face Off, his thematics are as visceral, irreverent, and stylish as his visuals.

You confuse thematics with theatrics. Something a lot of HK, blood and guts, action nerds often do. They calculate how good one of his films is by how many shootings there are. These same folks often think Better Tomorrow II is superior to the original.

You're worshiping the right director...but for the wrong reasons.

Face/Off is NOT John Woo's best film by any means, but it is his best American film.

The Killer has to be the best. But everything Metroid is ok with me.

Yeah, he'd better watch out, or someone might think he was spouting someone else's opinion.

re: Metroid

Oh and here's what happened to the John Woo project.

https://movieweb.com/metroid-produce...ect-collapsed/

I wonder if this experience is what gave us Metroid Other M? And subsequently killed momentum for a Metroid movie since that game and especially the back ground characterization of Samus wasn't well received.
