How much money did the first one make? Was it that much of a success to warrant a sequel?
I tried watching the first one on DVD at a friend's house, but had to turn it off after about 10 minutes.

Well to give you an idea from just this year it would've been the 6th highest grossing film of the year so far, just behind X2, handily beating:
Hulk
Terminator 3
Charlie's Angels 2
Tomb Raider 2
Bad Boys 2
American Wedding
and many other high-profilers
In other words: good for $155 mil.

I find it amusing that SMG left Buffy the Vampire Slayer in order to make movies like this. Can she not read scripts?
I was subjected to the first Scooby Doo movie. I want those ninety minutes back.
Sarah left Buffy to be peed and farted on. Who the hell directed that thing, Max Hardcore? Rob Black?

I liked the idea I came up with for such films as Glitter and the first Scooby Doo. When you buy a ticket for the film, the person selling the ticket gets to pull out a gun and shoot you in the face. I think that would work and would help getting less crappy movies made every year.
Yes, I paid to see the first Scooby Doo (I was dragged to it) and I want my $6 back along with my 90 minutes. It's one of those few films where I would've hung myself in the theater if only I had some rope.

And this coming from a guy whose favorite film so far this year was Lost in Translation. Try to remember, it takes all kinds. What might be right for you, might not be right for some. It takes different strokes to move the world.

I will say I didn't think Scooby Doo wasn't as awful as some seem to think. Freddie was the only real weak link, as I firmly believe Prinze has NO acting ability, and only moderate charm when he's playing characters that are exactly like himself. (The only thing I ever truly enjoyed him in was the episode of Jamie Kennedy Experiment he guested in.) Gellar was adequate, but she was miscast as well. Everyone else was fine, even the CGI Scooby. The script was so-so, but I feared much worse.

Saw the first one on HBO. It was about as good as I thought it would be. Silly but harmless, and I'm not the target audience anyway. A few more fart jokes than I was comfortable with though. Why do so many movies load up with fart jokes?

The only way I'll see this movie...
A scene between Linda Cardinelli/SMG like the scene between Jennifer Tilly/Gina Gershon in BOUND.

Unless you're a glutton for punishment, why go see this movie if you hate the franchise? I steered clear of it in theaters, and managed to not lose any sleep over it. I caught in in HBO and hated it, but i'm not compaining about it here and using some cliche' line like "i want my 90 minutes back!"......
