Just saw THIRTEEN
What a great movie!
had much more impact that Passion of the Christ.
Started off a bit like 90210 and then moved into close to Kids territory and then ended like some typical drama
Is it just me or was Evie a dead ringer for a young Eliza Dusku and Tracy a dead ringer for a young Kirsten Dunst !
Team all 4 actresses together for Bring it On the next generation!

I've liked a lot of religious themed movies. I just think Passion is a bad movie.

(you also told me you didn't like The Last Temptation....so which religious movies DO you like?)

Am I the only one confused about why the two of these would be compared in the first place? I would expect each to have a different impact but to directly compare them seems a bit disengenous IMHO.

Some of these are consistent with your views on religion, some are not.
I apologize for the hijack.

That made me laugh . . . do you really consider it a religious movie?

However, back on what I imagine the original topic was supposed to be . . . yes an excellent and very powerful movie. I think it is a perfect example of what all of Larry Clark's movies should have been.

Also, it was a brilliant satire of the religious and political situation in Judea at that time which was kind of a madhouse of messiahs and political intrigue under the hated Roman rule.
I was listing religiously themed movies and I think there is enough of the theme to be in that category.

On a side note, have you watched any of the Monty Python documentaries that deal with The Life Of Brian? They have some pretty cool insights into what they were going for in the movie. One of the most interesting ones that they say is that they had originally gone into it looking to make it a satirical movie about the life of Jesus, but after putting some work into it, realized that they couldn't figure out anything about Jesus to make fun of . . . religion yes (theat is plain to see in most of their movies), but not Jesus himself. So it evolved into a movie about the times of Jesus instead.
Anyway . . . yes, a fun movie, yet still a "thinking movie". I think it falls in a similar catagory as Dogma in that way. Good call.

And to think that I clicked on this thread, thinking that it was going to be about Thirteen...
It seems that some members must being doing periodic searches of all threads for any occurence of the words "Passion Christ" and then flock over to them, no matter what they were originally about, with their soapboxes in hand.

Agreed . . . it is brilliant. I think it just caught me off guard to see it lumped in with some of the other ones.

And what's so special about the cheesemakers?

Oh yeah, I liked Dogma too. Not as much as Brian though.

That's one reason I couldn't go see "Passion of the Christ."
During the crucifixion scene, I'd be horribly tempted to start belting out "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."
At which point, the theater would erupt into a riot...
