On a side note, have you watched any of the Monty Python documentaries that deal with The Life Of Brian? They have some pretty cool insights into what they were going for in the movie. One of the most interesting ones that they say is that they had originally gone into it looking to make it a satirical movie about the life of Jesus, but after putting some work into it, realized that they couldn't figure out anything about Jesus to make fun of . . . religion yes (theat is plain to see in most of their movies), but not Jesus himself. So it evolved into a movie about the times of Jesus instead.
Anyway . . . yes, a fun movie, yet still a "thinking movie". I think it falls in a similar catagory as Dogma in that way. Good call.

I think you would like Jesus of Nazarth. It's long but very well done.

I was really interested in seeing this movie (Thirteen not the Passion). IMO it was a let down. Everyone played their roles good, nothing great or outstanding, but good nonetheless. I think my main problem with the movie is the cinematography, it felt way too After School Special for my blood. The "cool" hand held cuts between scenes and such really bothered me. It just was trying to hard to be interesting with the camera work in those instances IMO. Storywise it was ok, nothing shocking really. I figure I will let it sit on my shelf for a while and give it another chance though, might have been my mood during viewing, I don't know.

So are you saying only religious movies that bash Jesus are "thinking movies"?
So are you saying only religious movies that bash Jesus are "thinking movies"?
First off, I would say that neither of those filsm "bash Jesus". Both of them take critical looks at organized religion (with Christianity being the one used in the movie), but neither of them bash Jesus in any way, shape, or form.
Secondly, what I was saying is that [b]The Life Of Brian[b] and Dogma are both movies with religious themes that are 1) funny and 2) "thinking movies".
Other movies with religious themes that I have found to be "thinking movies", (but not funny) include The Last Temptation Of Christ, The Passion of The Christ, and The Seventh Seal (just off of the top of my head).
Perhaps I should clarify that, by "thinking movies", I mean films that left me with some thoughts to chew on for at least a little while after having seen them.
. . . oh yeah . . . um . . . much like the movie Thirteen is left me with a number of thoughts to ponder. Particularly given that I work with a youth group that includes a handful of thirteen year old girls. Luckily, none of them (so far) seem to have started down this path that Tracy and Evie took.
