Oh, for the day when this is a universal truth!

Jack Black is a moderately talented guy (more of a supporting actor/character actor), and Tenacious D had a clever, one-hit-wonder novelty song with Tribute, but I just don't see why this guy is hailed by just about everyone as the greatest thing ever.

That said, School of Rock seems like a decent vehicle for his talents. I have a feeling it will open very strong, but die off quickly.

I guess I am somewhat biased, as I am a really big fan of Jack Black. There were no less than 5 songs on the Tenacious D album that I thought were awesome.

School of Rock is awesome as well. I didn't like Black's character at the very beginning, but as he started the "teaching gig" he started to get better. The children actors were great as well, and really filled their roles well. I read on the School of Rock website that they really played the music... and they did Rock! I was hoping to find the soundtrack after I saw the movie, but it doesn't come out until Tuesday, when I will definately be picking it up.

I thought it was kind of odd that some people started leaving (only about 5 ot 6) during the credits. If you stay the song goes all the way to the end. So, JB fans definately go see this next week when it comes out, or find a sneak of it tomorrow (Sunday). It is definately worth it.

My screening wasn't like this at all. The theater had a great time, and we all waited for the credits to go down.

Personally, I thought it was a fun movie. Nothing completely classic, but it definitely had its moments.

I agree that Jack Black isn't your normal star quality actor to headline a major motion picture, but this movie seems good for him, and it has me quite interested. At the very least I will rent it, and more than likely it will wind up in heavy rotation on Comedy Central in the future.

I saw a sneak preview on Saturday and thought it was alright. Groucho was right when he said "They should have named this Sister Act 3." on a previous thread because that's exactly what I thought about when they played the show. Jack Black does have an amazing voice though. It was an entertaining movie but wasn't as funny as I had expected it to be.

I saw the sneak yesterday (School of Rock + Dickie Roberts for $4.75, not too bad). I enjoyed it, but it really does seem no different than your typical Adam Sandler/David Spade/etc. vehicle. Thankfully it's not as cutesy as something like Sister Act, but still a variation on that type of theme. I actually must admit I liked Dickie Roberts equally, and I never would've seen that if it wasn't part of this combo.

If there's one thing I've learned from having a subscription to EW for 8 years, it's this: take their movie reviews with a grain of salt, especially Owen Gleiberman's.

That being said, I do think that this will be an entertaining movie. It won't win any awards, but I'm sure it'll make me laugh which is all that I ask.

With 34 reviews in, the movie is pulling a healthy 88% (83% COTC) on the Tomatometer. Could end up being pretty popular. I think I'll check it out.

Eh, I still see him as the loser big brother who wanted to go off and kill some martians.

Never was a big Jack Black fan. Might check this out if it's at the dollar theater. not willing to spend my big bucks on it though it does seem like a decent film.

lol!!! tom green and jack black?! absolutely no comparison! I guess they are both white... and men, but other than that I dont see any similarities. Jack Black is funny and occassionally does somethin dumb for an extra laugh.... Tom Green is dumb and occassionally does something funny for an extra laugh.

Saw this movie tonight and have to say I like it alot. I'm not going into some big review about it. Just thought I would let you Jack Black fans out there know that it ROCKS!
Probably the non fans won't like it though.
