I don't mind Vin so much, I dunno where all the hate comes from. Guess most guys are just jealous of their wives and girlfriends and sisters and mothers and grandmothers drooling over him. I know I am But still, I thought he was great in the iron giant and saving private ryan, pitch black was great too but I haven't liked anything he's done since fast & the furious, that movie just stunk all around. I'm lookin forward to chronicles of riddick though. I hope it doesn't end up being another Highlander 2.

I don't know why people keep thinking that "Chronicles" is a sequel to "Pitch Black". It is not a sequel, it's not a prequel either.

From IGN:
February 26, 2004 - Some light was shed this week on one 2004's more interesting-looking films, when VinXperience briefly interviewed an insider on the Chronicles of Riddick production.
Combined with the information given at the official site's synopsis page, we see the story of Riddick's personal struggle – the return of a convict to the planet where he was condemned – against the backdrop of mankind's war against the Necromongers and their foul religion.
Five years after Pitch Black, his time spent evading bounty-hunters, troubling dreams prompt Richard B. Riddick to revisit his home planet, Helion. There, he must confront the places and people he once loved, and the scourge of undead armies attempting to control their world. The Lord Marshall leads these armies, and is reforging the beliefs and society of Helion as part of his conquest. Riddick becomes a rebel leader against the Lord Marshall and finds that the faith he denied in Pitch Black is a beacon in the darkness he faces.
Along the way, The Chronicles shows us Riddick's earlier life in a series of flashbacks, making it both a prequel and a sequel. We see the tragedy that befell his family, the murderous revenge he took on his uncle, and the blame he puts on God for getting him into that mess. But now it seems that God is moving in mysterious ways, and Riddick needs all the Divine help he can get.
The ultimate confrontation between Riddick and the Lord Marshall will have a lasting effect on Helion and all human civilization.
The Chronicles of Riddick is scheduled for a June 11th release.

In "Chronicles" the story has nothing to do with "Pitch Black". There are no other returning characters from the "Pitch Black" movie. In "Chronicles" there won't be any of them creatures you see in "Pitch Black". "Chronicles" is going to be a very different film.

Based on what I've read I'd have to agree with Corvin.
I think Vin is a pretty smart guy, I mean I know that during Saving Private Ryan he was getting Speilberg and the cameramen to teach him about cinematography, even though he was only a small part actor (I saw Spielberg interviewed a tthe time and he was talking about it). I think he chose a few roles to get $ and clout, in order to do what he really wanted to do. I think his main interest is actually sci-fi, and I wouldn't be surprised if the only reason he did the few blcokbusters was in order to get the Riddick films made, as they've been in his head for years. I hated xXx and though F&F was okay, but I don't think his day in the sun is over yet, and I think he will earn more respect in the years to come. Just my humble opinion though.

I like Vin... xXx was very poor indeed but Fast and the Furious is held very high in my collection, as is pitch black. I'm yet to see A Man Apart, but I do expect good things.
Concerning Fast and the Furious 3 Lets just hope it beats 2 fast 2 furious :-/

I hope Riddick does good so we can get another one or two films. I like him in these roles more than cop or bad boy roles. He is more of a Sci Fi guy I think... PB was da bomb!

You know, while many of the points of his post were wrong (this story will tie in with Pitch Black) he is right in the fact that this is a spin-off film.
I mean, let's be honest...it really doesn't follow the story of Pitch Black. It takes its characters and sets them in a completey different type of movie. This isn't going to be a horror Alien type of movie, which was completely the focus of the Pitch Black. Riddick wasn't really the MAIN character of that film, simply one of the leading chracters. Hell, when they were making that film they weren't even sure if it would be Riddick or the female lead who would die in the end.
This new film falls more into the action adventure realm, as Twohy has said. So lambast that man all you want (he was wrong on many fronts) but this film truly is more of a spinoff than a direct sequel or prequel. You gotta remember, Pitch Black was more about how some survivors deal with those pesky aliens, those aliens being really the main attraction. Seeing as those aliens are no longer even a part of the film, I can't see how you could call this a direct sequel or prequel. That's my opinion, but I get the feeling David Twohy would agree.

Oh - I didn't mean to lambast anyone... I was just highlighting a common practice and making light of it (trying to anyway). Most people here have done that at one time or another... me included I'm sure. It was just another failed attempt at humor. And he erased his comments before I posted that, so I don't think I chased him off. In any case, I'll delete that post cuz I didn't wanna be mean.
I don't care if it's a sequel or a spinoff or both or neither, I liked Pitch Black and as a fan of both Twohy and Diesel, I am certainly gonna go see Chronicles. As for your last comment though, I kinda saw Pitch Black as a character piece and the aliens were the backdrop - kinda like Lake Placid... it wasn't really a giant alligator movie, it was a character piece.

But really who cares, big budget and quite possibly intriguing science fiction is why I'm interested in this flick. Towhy has impressed me with at least making interesting flicks (I enjoyed the Arrival also, haven't seen Below) so, if anything that's where my excitement comes from.

Below was good... it wasn't perfect and I would've liked to see it go in a bit of a different direction than it did, but it was otherwise good. I just picked it up on DVD after catching about 20 minutes of it on cable. I also thought Arrival was great.

I would care less about Vin Diesel to me he just used up 14 of his 15 minutes of fame long ago who should be re-classified as a B-list movie actor. look for him on direct to video action movies from now on he is just an overrated actor who is just out of his league.

Vin Diesel doesn't mind being in brainless poporn flicks, some people did enjoy fast and the furious and xxx for what they are, they are not meant to win oscars or break new ground, , if he gets a film like Croncicles of Riddick film greenit, great, that film wasn't greenlighted until after fast and the furious and xxx gave him some clout, it's the way Hollywood is, and if some of you like it, then you got thank xxx and fast and the furious as tools to get it made, Sean Connery has quite a few bad films among his popular ones, some actors just spoil us for their consistency, like Al Pacino, but Pacino isn't one for blockbusters, Diesel is at times, he's won't have a great consisteny at all times, but if there's a good film within every 3 he makes, great.
The Riddick character is great, Diesel's created a unti hero u wanna route for, mixture of sci-fi and this charater really is a cool combination.
Everyone has their likes and dislikes, but the reason we post them is to find others to experience our likes and dislikes to make us feel good about our likes and dislikes
