Vin Diesel: Are his 15 minutes up yet?

Vin Diesel, wasn't he supposed to be the next Arnold? I watched about 20 minutes of xXx before I turned it off...horrible stuff. Will his career be more like Schwarzenegger's or Steven Seagal's?

Hokeyboy 02-27-04 12:42 AM

If Chronicles of Riddick bombs, he's pretty much in Seagal territory... Guaranteed participation in the Fast and the Furious 3.

You guys are tough... but if he's the next Seagal, then the Rock is the next Van Damn, imo.

Myster X 02-27-04 01:05 AM

Relax, I heard they're filming a Pitch Black trilogy. ;)

Jackskeleton 02-27-04 01:16 AM

Lets just see what happens with chronicles of riddick.

fumanstan 02-27-04 01:21 AM

I thought XXX was pretty decent. I don't think Riddick is going to make or break his career, although Universal seems to be hyping it up more then it needs to, by rereleasing/retitling the Pitch Black DVD as well as coming out with an animated prequel dealie.

Ergyu 02-27-04 01:26 AM

whats the Pitch black gonna be called now?

Fok 02-27-04 01:31 AM

This actor is way overrated. Seems just like a street punk with no talent.

will travel 02-27-04 02:34 AM

He's the most ugly-looking actor I have ever seen.

I enjoyed pitch black, but he better start picking better roles cause XxX just plain sucked.

DVD Polizei 02-27-04 03:35 AM

Who? He was good in Pitch Black. After that...downhill, baby. Went to his (bald) head. 2Fast 2Furious.

Michael Corvin 02-27-04 07:14 AM

The chronicles olf Riddick preview rocks.

Vegas9203 02-27-04 07:55 AM

I think they've BEEN up ;)

Giles 02-27-04 08:14 AM

simple question, short answer: YES.

Michael Corvin 02-27-04 08:20 AM

ahh. I like Vin. I liked F&F, Boiler Room, Pitch Black, and he did a pretty good job in Saving Private Ryan.

It is when his head got too big that things started going downhill. XXX - mediocre. Knockaround Guys? Not impressed.

Hokeyboy 02-27-04 09:15 AM

Iron Giant is the only VD movie worth a damn. The rest is all overproduced junk. And then there's Maude!

Rubix 02-27-04 11:47 AM

his fame disappeared fast and now he's furious

I liked Saving Private Ryan and Boiler Room. Even though he wasn't the star of those films, he wasn't really the star of The Iron Giant either; come to think of it, that voice could have been anyone's, couldn't it...

Michael Corvin 02-27-04 12:36 PM

I always forget Iron Giant since I don't own it... patiently waiting for SE.

Are Vin's days in the fame over? I'd say far from it. Fast and the Furious made him a big star. Since then he's had ONE new movie come out, XXX, and that film did quite well commercially (yes, it wasn't that good). Now we have Chronicles of Riddick, a film I am looking forward...a film that wouldn't exist save for the star power of Vin Diesel. I imagine his career does rely a lot on this movie. If it bombs, it will hurt him (not to the point of straight to video though). But really, his career is fine...this movie is just a big make or break thing. His topliner career is made up of Rob Cohen films. So we shall see.

I know he had a couple flicks open after XXX, but really I don't count those. They were holdover junk movies made before the fast and the furious, with limited advertising to push them. Nonetheless, I don't think they represent what he will be doing from now on.
