When I worked at a video store I made sure to ask anyone with the same last name as a famous person if they were related. Turns out I met distant relatives of both Dan O'Bannon and George Lazenby. There were both really nice and friendly.

That sure sounds like an a-hole moment, to me.

the girl from Dawson Creek (can't remember her name right now)
she was from Toledo, Ohio... so she went back about 3 years ago for some event in downtown... met her there, she looked at me & i was stearing at her boobs (cause my buddy told me the other night that her boobs aren't even)... crap!
she was HOT
Katie Holmes. And yes, she is hot. Very hot.

I'm an actor so I've met a lot of people on the set over the years, but only a few celebrity encounters outside.

Met WCW/WWE wrestler Sean O Haire once at the Westside Pavillion in West L.A. It as right when WCW got bought out and I was a huge fan of his WCW work. He was looking at games in the Electronics Boutique and being a huge nerd fanboy I just said "Whoa... you're Sean O Haire." I talked to him for a little about who was being signed from WCW and if he had any ideas as to what Titan had in store for the WCW brand. He told me he heard all the Natural Born Thrillas were signed but he had only talked to Mark Jindrak, Mike Sanders and Shawn Stasiak. I guess they ended up letting Sanders go. He said they were looking to get a TV slot later that year. If he only knew.... Real personable and talented guy. I hope WWE does something with him soon.

He was also a real contrast to Hulk Hogan who I recently saw live on the Jimmy Kimmel show. During the interview, he repeated thanked all the lifelong fans for making his legacy what it is, only to completely snub everyone waiting in the back for autographs and pictures, and it was pretty early, too (10 p.m.)

I met Pauly Shore at a Lakers game in 1995. He was standing around with a couple of friends, and we asked for his autograph (hey I was like 16 at the time ) and he said "No problem"
We also met Kato Kaelin the same day. We saw Charlie Sheen, and tried to get his autograph, but this big security guard wasn't letting anyone through.

My Dad met Nick Nolte years ago, and said he was a pretty big jerk.

My friend was at a baseball game about 10 years ago, and saw Luis Polonia, who was still playing at the time. He said he saw a kid ask for his autograph, and Polonia asked "You got twenty bucks?" At that point someone yelled something about the fans paying his salary, and he just walked away.

my dad was in new york city years ago. while walking down 5th ave. he turned a corner and ran right into meryl streep. she was alone and he said very pleasant and apologetic (obviously neither's fault). he also said she was absolutely stunning in person!

also a guy i used to work for did some volunteer work for a film organization where he went to college. they brought talent in and organized screenings, etc. well, they were lucky enough to get oliver stone to come and speak. after the event they took him to a restaurant for dinner and he was high as a kite and rambled on the entire thing....just incoherent ramblings mixed with profound thoughts on film and the world. my friend said he was pretty cool and interesting at first but when their food arrived he started touching everyone in reach's plate and entree! he was just absentmindedly talking with his hands and they kept wandering into people's food! everyone who was affected really didn't want their food after that but they had to eat it so as not to seem rude.

Well about 10 or so years ago I met the band Prong after their show at the Tower Theater in Philly at the bar acrpss the street. Bands almost always go there after the show so I planned ahead and brought their Prove You Wrong CD, and got autographed by the band, hung out and chatted a bit, they were all really cool. I also met Zach Wylde there after an Ozzy show, he was really cool too. And in '91 I met Glenn Danzig at his tour bus after his show and we chatted for a while, we talked about Wolverine for a while

Then when I was living in LA for a bit a few years ago, I was working in Brentwood, right around the corner from Nicole Simpson's place. I had run-ins with michael richards, who used to come to the juice bar right by my work all the time and get smoothies. He seemed cool but I never really talked to him much, but when I mentioned how much I loved him in UHF he said thanks and stuff. There was a salon nearby that Jenny Mcarthy would go to almost every day, but I never got to meet her (I heard from coworkers that she was a real beeotch), and I had sarah michelle gellar right behind me at a salad bar on my lunch break once, but couldn't get up the nerve to say anything, but we did make eye contact!

I met Bob Vila when he came in where I worked at one time. Really short, and a real bunghole. He said nothing to no one just talked to the vice president who was showing him around. One of my coworkers said hello to him, and he just looked at him. My coworker said "Norm's cooler anyway"

Emeril was a real ass too. He came in where I worked and they told us Emeril wants to sign no autographs today. The folks in my department started laughing and said who would want a cook's autograph anyway. Bobby Flay was a real ass too.

The only actor I had ever talked with is the Scotish actor Peter Mullan (My Name is Joe, Trainspotting, Braveheart, Miss Julie, Session 9) - twice (once at the post screening Q&A of "Miss Julie" in London, and after a Q&A of his directorial film "The Magdalene Sisters" in Bethesda Maryland). He cames across as one of the most engaging and friendliest actors I have had the pleasure to meet.

The other night (Tuesday) I almost had the chance to meet with Jeanne Moreau, but I freaked and wimped out - there are some actors that seem have an invisible wall surrounding them. Ms Moreau, surprised me in that she is really quite short, a little over 5 feet (it's amazing how a camera can make you look taller).

Other than that I have met Gruff from (Super Furry Animals), Matthew Bellamy (Muse) and Darren Hayman (Hefner), I guess any band from the UK when meeting fans from across the pond, are geniunely glad they have a fanbase and are all round congenial.

There was this one time I got to hang out with author Timothy Zhan - not a big name or anything, but he did write the best Star Wars novels (amongst other books).

It was a local SF convention some years ago. I didnt attend, but I did show up early sunday morning for his autograph session. Now of course anyone who has even been to a con knows that all the parties happen saturday night, and sunday morning is dead, dead, dead. So I roll into his session - there isnt a soul in there. He's chatting away happly with the security person on the door - a long time and dear friend of mine.

So, I get him to sign my book, and then the three of us just hung out and bullshitted for 2 or 3 hours. Great fun.

My only brush with Big Name Celebrities would be the time that I saw Jay Buhner at Toys R Us a couple of decembers ago. He was just shopping for toys for X-mas with his wife (I think it was his wife). I played it cool - I didn't run over or ask him for an autograph or anything.

But it was kind of cool to be picking through the Star Wars and GI Joe figures at the same time as him, tho.

From: Hell - see you when you get here.
i thought there already was a thread liek this here a few month back...anyway.
i was cut off by Val Kilmer at the LA airport.
I got to the top level on an escalator and was walking toward the baggage check, a few steps before i get there i see someone run up and throw their bags on the conveyer belt right in front of me when i was the next in line. I was tired and turned to tell that person, WTF?! Right when i open my mouth to say something, i realize that the guy looked familliar... a second later, it hit me who it was. He was there with his two kids so i didnt want to be a dick. He looked at me, smiled and said "hi". I just gave him a dirty look in return.

This thread could go on forever.

Then again, if you started a thread saying "Celebrities that are NOT a-holes", there probably wouldn't be any posts!

I told my friends and one of them is a big fan, so she ran over, and was all nervous. Then I tapped him on the shoulder right after he finished interviewing someone, and shook his hand. Then my friend was going to shake his hand and was like "I'm so happy to meet you!" and then he said "oh well, then give me a hug!"

Just really really friendly. Cool guy.
Jay Leno is one of the most genuinely nicest people I've ever met. On my way home after attending a taping of The Tonight Show, I was stopped at a red light, and Jay pulled up next to me. I rolled down my window and had a very short conversation. Very friendly person.

I've never really dealt with any a-hole celebrities myself, but I just heard from a reporter I know that Morgan Freeman is a total d*ck at junkets. And apparently Gene Hackman threw a table during one because he didn't like the questions.

This year, I met CARROLL SPINNEY, the Muppeteer who plays both Big Bird and Oscar the Grouch on SESAME STREET, at his book signing in San Jose.

This avuncular, wonderful man is definitely not an a-hole.

Not only did he whip out the Oscar puppet and perform for us singing "I Love Trash," but being an accomplished artist, he drew a picture of Big Bird in a book for my daughter. As my daughter and I were leaving the bookstore, she dropped her Oscar toy figure. He picked it up, and in Oscar's voice he said: "Don't forget about meee!!!"

A class act.

I hate you so much. If there was anyone in the world that I would love to meet, it would (have been) this guy.

I've met a lot of bands, some kinda large, most pretty small (or at least to the majority of people.)

The 2 longest stints were Papa Roach and Alien Ant Farm, at separate times. I hung out on the tour bus with Papa Roach after a show for aboug 4 hours drinking and playing Xbox. They are all really nice guys, even though I don't like their band lol. My gf at the time was into them and always got backstage passes and stuff.

I met Alien Ant Farm and hung out with them on their bus as well, and just chatted about music and stuff for about a half hour. Really nice fellows as well. Again, not a fan really, but had the free passes.

Awesome thread. I can only hope to read more stories.

Sadly I have no great stories. I did spot Bjork walk into an ATM with her son (or at least that's what my co-worker told me). I didn't say anything, I was a bit stunned.

On a lesser occasion I met the Howard Stern impersonator who used to be on the show all the time. I got on an elevator, looked to my right and said "Holy shit! You're the fake Howard Stern!".

We spoke a bit till my floor came up. Seemed like a cool guy. Bad teeth though. Damn, now that I think about it, he must walk around everywhere dressed up like Stern (I was in the Manhattan Mall BTW.)

EDIT:

My mom's a waitress and she's met a few celebs. Mainly the Black guy and the Old guy from Law and Order (Sorry, I don't know their names). She said they were in a hurry but they were ok tippers. Fernando Ferrer who ran for mayor of NYC a few years back is also a lousy tipper. "A cheap scumbag who thinks he's some big shit" according to mom. I think she told me he doesn't like to speak spanish in public.

Not when I met her. It was after the Spider Man premiere and the fans were asking to take pictures with her. She obliged and her agent kept telling her she had to leave. She still kept taking picture with the fans. As she was walking to her limo I yelled "Hey Lucy, can I take a picture with you?". Sure enough she stopped and my friend took a pic of both of us. Funny thing was when she was walking on the red carpet I was booing her because I heard stories about her being a biotch. I was also going to get Tobey's autograph but Jeniffer Love Hewitt called him to come back inside so he left before signing my pass.

Back at a Nets- Spurs game at the Meadwolands in 1990, Chris Reid was at the urinal next to me. Considereing the circumstances he was friendly enough- probably would have shook his hand if I had the chance to wash.

I’ve met quite a few celebs at Star Trek/Comic Book conventions.

A friend of mine found John De Lancie (“Q” – ST: TNG) quite rude too. When she went to get her autograph (with grandson along) he pretty much told her grandson that television was bad (hello, where did you make your money?).

Adam West was really nice to a couple of young friends of mine. We were at a comic book convention and of course you have to pay for an autograph. Well, my young friends wanted a Batman comic signed and although he really didn’t have anything to do with this comic he signed, chatted, even took a picture with them and he didn’t make them pay.

However, Lou Ferigno was a total butt. My friends wanted him to do the same thing with a Hulk comic. Well, I can understand that he didn’t want to, because the a way he makes his money is from his picture autographs and a Hulk comic is not his property – BUT he was sooooo rude. He wouldn’t sign the comic and was nasty about it and they asked if they could just take a picture – he says, “You buy one of my autographs and I’ll take a picture with you.” Please.

I was at a small bar in Champaign at a Blackalicioius/DJ Shadow show. The opening DJ spun for about an hour then there was a 15 minute break before Blackalicious came on and during those 15 minutes I was chatting with the DJ, talking about hip hop and stuff, where he was from and all that. Real cool down to earth guy.

Then I realized later on that it was DJ Shadow that I was talking to. Whoops.
