BEST musical before 1970?

DVD Talk Legend
I'd have to go with either Singin' In The Rain or Seven Brides for Seven Brothers based on the fact that at any time I'm ready to watch either of them again.
Another one that never fails to entertain is Cover Girl - pure magic.

I voted for Meet Me In St. Louis, which is daring in its almost total abandonment of traditional plot structure. The Halloween segment is just about the best short film about childhood ever. Songs like "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas" and "The Trolley Song" don't hurt either.
But it's a pretty limited list, skewed heavily towards 60s movies--there's not a single Astaire and Rogers, for one thing. And Duck Soup?!?!
