Star Wars 7-8-9 ... things might be happening

A few little tidbits (yeah, I know it's AICN)...

It appears that contracts and licensing deals are being extended. Maybe it's nothing, but if this stuff is true, then it could be taken as a sign that something is being planned.

And from TFN:

i really hope they don't extend this franchise... it just doesn't have the "heart and soul" it used to.

I agree. I have a hard time believing it would be anything spectacular.

C'mon now.. they can sells toys for Star Wars until the end of time.. just because they are extending contracts so this is possible in no way reflects that any future movies will be coming.

While I wish they'd leave it alone already, sadly it's not my decision...

If Lucas would sit back and let someone else handle the new stuff it could be very cool.

Exactly. Let him be the Executive Producer and co-writer of the script and call it a day.

Amen.

he should have done so with 1 & 2 (and potentially 3), but if he would loosen the reins a bit with 7, 8 & 9, i think i would be pretty excited about them.

Yes. Get a few directors that don't mind doing work for hire and let them go to work.

Kevin Smith. David Fincher. Ronny Yu. John McTiernan...

And this time, build sets and employ thousands of extras.

I'm not convinced you save money by doing everything in CGI.

It's time to let the franchise die. This is beating a dead horse.

Unless its the Zahn trilogy, I'll pass.

Oh... my vote is for Bruce Payne as Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Please not Kevin Smith, I just don't wanna see Luke taking a bong hit every time he dispatches an enemy, nor do I wish to See Darth Bob and his apprentice Salacious Jay.

If ANY of this is true, then perhaps the rumour of Spielberg desperately wanting to direct them is true too. Though I am not sure he is a good decision either.

Many would probably love to see Peter Jackson try, but I just don't see it happening, I dont even know if he likes the Star Wars Franchise.

Fincher? ::ahem:: Alien 3 ::Ahem::
Let him do his own movies.

What would you think about Christopher Nolan? How about Richard Kelly (Donnie Darko)? David Ywohy (Pitch Black)? Danny Boyle? They at least sound interesting and could revitalize the films.

If not the Zahn trilogy (which would rock) I think they could do a decent trilogy on the new jedi order series with the Yuzhan Vong invasion.

Though I quit reading them 5-6 books in as there's just too damn many of them to keep up with, so the story could have went down hill.

Haven't read the New Jedi Order... I've only read a few of the novels outside of the Zahn trilogy.

Maybe they should go back and fill in with Splinter In the Mind's Eye and Shadow of the Empire...

Who would play Shizor?

Considering this means almost nothing, I wouldn't pay it much heed. I'll wait for an official announcement before assuming too much.

However, if Lucas does decide to do Ep 7-9(and I'm hoping he doesn't)then I honestly wouldn't expect much more than what we're getting now--bad dialogue, terrible direction, and great special effects.

I don't see the movies happening. But if they did, I think the best thing they could do would be to make individual films. The 6 films create a very nice sweeping arc. Now they could veer off and tell lots of side stories, back stories, so on and so forth. Allow other talents to come in and craft their own Star Wars movies, under the guidance of Lucas. But alas...tis a dream.

This could be scary news of the year. If episodes 7-8-9 contain the same poor dialogue and wooden acting of episodes 1-2-and most likely 3, then..........

What I find funny is how many people just jumped on the Lucas bash bandwagon without even reading or realizing how unsubstantial this news topic is.

It's a long series (pretty much every SW book coming out now is a continuation, other than some prequel trilogy based ones).

Essentially, Han and Leia's kids are in their mid-late teens and the story focuses a little more on them.

The main issue is theirs an alien race from beyond the galactic rim (unexplored space) that's come into the galaxy with the sole intent of wiping everything out for religious reasons (machines/technology are an abominamation to them, all their ships and stuff are organic and grown).

It's sounds a little cheesy, and some of the books are terrible, but some are pretty good and the Vong are bad ass enemies.

Heir to the Empire takes place how many years after Jedi?

the original cast is probably old enough to pull it off.

they story's already been written.

all they need is a fresh new director.

why not? if there's money to be made, i'm sure lucas will milk it for all it's worth.
