I heard that kind of crap also, and it pissed me off. Given the size and scope of this project, what do you expect them to do? I was very pleased with the ending and could have sat another hour or so. People had plenty of chances to leave whenever they wanted.

I went to the the first showing on Wednesday at 10:30 ni the morning and pretty much my crowd clapped/cheered at most of the scenes that everyone has mentioned. What I found to be slightly disturbing was that about five people sitting in the back of theater freaked out and cheered/clapped when the words "The Lord of the Rings" came on the screen at the beginning of the film. You could hear a lot of negative comments being said about those guys. And a first for me, I actually clapped along with the rest of the theater when the film ended. I know that no one else could hear us but I thought it was a way to show respect and my appreciation towards Peter Jackson for creating this trilogy and bringing to us.
