So, when did you cheer?
(inspired by the "maybe you cried" thread)
I was surprised. I very rarely hear an audience CHEER in a movie. I mean really en masse. And even I did in a couple of places (not as many as the crowd). Did you? When? Me: When Eowyn cut off the head of the Witch King's steed. Followed quickly, by "I am NO MAN!" Aragorn jumping out of the ship when the orcs expected help. |
Not much of a cheerer myself, but their were a few moments I wanted to. The ones stated above, as well as when Sam shows up to fight Shelob and when he rescues Frodo from the orcs after that.

I have never understood why people clap in a theater so needless to say I was not clapping along with them. Having said that, the audience went ape$hit at....

When Gandalf clobbered Denethor with his staff.

I didn't. People don't cheer in movie theatres here, well maybe if it's the premiere and the audience is full of fanatics. If you ask me, clapping at a movie is rather silly :o
|
From my theater experience:
Here's where the audience really started cheering loudly:
1. When Gandalf used his staff to flatten Denethor and take over the defense of Minas Tirith. 2. When Eowyn cut off the head of the Fell Beast (some audience members actually gave a standing ovation!). 3. When Legolas took on that Mumakil with the riders on top on the Mumakil. 4. After Frodo wakes up after being rescued from Mount Doom, when Sam walks into the room. 5. When King Elessar kisses Arwen after the coronation. 6. When the people attending the coronation of King Elessar bowed to the four hobbits. 7. When the movie ended (there was lots of standing ovations!). |
yep, when the hobbits where the first to follow Aragorn
when Eowyn stood up to the Nazgul and when Rohan charged the orcs there was also a cheer when Gandalf whacked Denethor with his staff |

whine whine whine........i for one like seeing movies when the crowd is emotionaly charged......how often do you see a movie that people are into enough to cheer?

Legolas taking down the Oliphunt...Aragorn charging with the Dead Army...Ride of the Rohirrim...

at the senator primiere on trilogy tuesday, all of the characters got an applause as they walked in. |
Originally posted by DRG I agree 100%. I feel like yelling "They can't hear you!!!" In fact, a few times those idiots pissed me off. When Legolas Spoiler:

I wanted to stand up and cheer when:
1. The eagles came in and start taking on the Nazghoul (that was the most unexpected moment for me.) 2. The charge of Rohan. The huge, sweeping shot of all the horses flooding across the field gives me chills. 3. Legolas taking out the Oliphant and crew 4. and of course Eowen kicking the Witch kings @$$ I'll save all that for when the extended DVD edition comes out and I can jump up and down all I want. |
People didn't really cheer that much, but there was some big laughter for some of the Gimli scenes. I find that guy pretty damn funny at times.
The biggest response came from the Eowyn fight and the Legolas scene where he jumped on the elephant thing and beat some ass. That was some pretty cool shit. Either way, it's a SoCal (OC) crowd, so of course we're quiet and non-chalant. |
I made a bit of noise ;) when I saw
-the Ride of the Rohirrim...when they mow down the orcs on the fields of Pelennor...incredible-- -Aragorn disembarking from the ship with the Army of the Dead -Legolas taking down the Oliphaunt...killer elf! The rest of the time my face was mostly either -eek- or :( |
All of the above mentioned, plus the scene with Sam & Frodo on Mt. Doom.
"I may not be able to carry the ring, but I can carry YOU!" Big cheer at the midnight show. |

I, along with the rest of my audience, cheered when this girl two rows back went "Oh God, end already!" during the Grey Havens scene and this other guy yelled, "Shut up!". That biatch kept her mouth shut for the rest of it.
|
I'm not one to cheer or clap at a movie, but I have no problems with people that do. They're not trying to be annoying, they're showing their appreciation & respect for what they're watching. When I saw it wednesday afternoon, the only applause was at the very end, other than that they just laughed at all the right moments and that's about it.

Let's See:
Gandalf smacking Denethor with the staff Aragon's "For Frodo" the turning of the battle at Minas tirith Eowyn and the Witch King Aragorn's gatherng of the army of the dead Gandalf's talk to Shadowfax The destruction of Sauron & Mordor Legolas and the Oliphant Sam fighting Shelob & the Orcs And pretty much evrything else in the movie! |

When I saw it with the first 2 on Trilogy Tuesday, I cheered and clapped and shouted "Yeah!," or something similar; a few times. Mostly with the scenes where Sam ended up being the hero. I really liked his character and I loved what he did in the movie.
Of course I'd only do this when everyone else in the theater had already started. |
No cheers at my viewing, which i was very thankful for. Count me as one of those people that dislike clapping and cheering during the middle of a movie. A few laughs at some jokes, but that's about it.
