Well I can say that this has a high potential of not succeeding at the box office. They're not pushing it as a sequel to Pitch Black. I imagine the only reason this movie exists is because of the success of Vin Diesel, and that is what they'll prolly try to sell it on in the coming months.
But...I love good ol science fiction romps, and I think Twohy makes some good stuff. I think Diesel's starpower has the potential to just give a guy with an interesting idea the chance to make his big epic movie. And...that intrigues me. At the very least I feel that this wasn't just some story that was cooked up by execs to make a big movie.

This is a spin off series, could be a trilogy if it does well. This movie takes place 5 years after PB. Something like that. It also features Keith David playing the same role he did in PB, Abu al-Walid.

It actually didn't look that bad to me (I liked Pitch Black, BTW). True, I agree that most of the public won't know what the deal with "Riddick" is all about. Most people I know don't even know what Pitch Black was. I assume it'll die a quick death at the theaters and hopefully find its niche audience on DVD (assuming the film is any good).

Anyone booing at any LOTR shows probably just wanted the movie to start, and of course they think LOTR is the end all, be all of movies so anything made afterwards is insignificant. I think this movie will open big, and when the movie is finally finished, we'll see a full fledged trailer that will hopefully flesh out the whole plot and story. Hey, its a different sci-fi oppurtunity, give it a chance before bagging it.

Thandie Newton, nothing else needs to be known, I'm there. She's one of only three actors who I'll go see anything they're in.

I was watching the end of Fear Factor, waiting for 10.5 to start (stop laughing), and lo and behold I was treated to a TV spot for Riddick. I'm guessing its new or it would have at least been mentioned here....but this spot was kick-ass!!
I was more or less neutral on the teaser, it gave us an idea that we'd have some nice visuals, but so what, how was that a Riddick story....well here we have this TV spot that fills in some details...along with some more nice visuals. I wish I could describe it better, or could find it on-line because this 30 seconds spot has quickly reinvigorated my interest in this movie.
My favorite line (paraphrased...badly) spoken by Judi Densch, "You don't fight evil with good, you fight it with a different kind of evil"

But that's the point tho. Riddick isn't evil anymore if he has a softspot for people in trouble. Riddick is supposed to be someone we don't sympathize with and who doesn't sympathize with us. The end of Pitch Black pretty much turned him into a wuss.

I also saw the same TV spot that Clemente mentioned last night. It didn't really give up more of the plot, but it still looked pretty interesting.

You watched 10.5 but will wait for the DVD on CoR... from what I've heard about 10.5 that's saying alot. I'm just not sure if it's saying alot about you or about CoR

I am dying to see this, but until this tv spot, universal has really been dropping the ball on this one... even people I know who have seen Pitch Black, aren't quite making the connection.... they really need to use the old "FROM THE DIRECTOR OF PITCH BLACK, COMES THE NEXT CHAPTER.... THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK"
I'm assuming there will be a completely kick ass trailer attached to Van Helsing... hopefully that will help stir up some hype.
