Chronicles of Riddick Trailer (Pitch Black sequel)

See it here. Looks pretty interesting to me. I've heard rumors of a Pitch Black SE DVD and an Anime tie-in for this. Sounds like Universal's tent pole for next summer.

Looks awesome, my fears of this having a low budget look are squashed.

doesn't look half bad. any movie that has Dame Judi Dench and Vin Diesel has to be good!

My enjoyment of this movie is going to be based on how much I miss Rhada Mitchell. While most people who loved the Pitch Black were gaga over the badassness of Riddick, it was Mitchell that really made me love the movie.

Still, looks like a movie that isn't entirely unafraid of taking a chance. And Judi Dench in a sci-fi movie? wtf?

Looks good. Is this gonna be a sequel, or a prequel?

The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the trailer was, wow, the beginning looks a lot like the video for Linkin Park's "In The End." The giant statue especially. Plus it didn't help when Judi Dench said, "The end."

Some of the effects look bad, and some parts reminded me of Total Recall or Judge Dread (set and effects wise).

I concur. it really didn't seem like a Pitch Black sequel. I must have missed something.

BTW, besides the character's name, I wonder if they are even going to acknowledge that this is a Pitch Black sequel?

Somewhere on the Pitch Black dvd (I haven't seen it for a while) they do mention that this movie will take place before the events in the first movie.

People cheered this when I saw the trailer before Return of the King, but I just thought it looked like a bad Dune rip-off. The comparisons to Judge Dredd also make sense. Either way, I'll be skipping this one.

I LOVED Pitch Black, but I don't really think this is any kind of sequel or prequel. Just a spinoff with the Riddick character. However, I do believe that it takes place before the events of Pitch Black....so I guess its sort of a prequel, which has NOTHING to do with the original except one character. I'll shut up now.

Looks good to me.
I'll shut up now, again.

It looks like Chronicles is a sequel to Pitch Black the way that LOTR is a sequel to The Hobbit. They have some story elements and characters in common, but aren't necessarily directly related in all possible ways.

Looked good until about half way through when it turned into the same action movie trailer we see almost daily.

For me, this is just a sign of the impending apocalypse!

And for the record, this movie is indeed a prequel to Pitch Black, not a sequel.
