Well, I didn't mind the love story in the first Spider-Man, but god did it look terrible in this trailer. I was hoping that car would lop of Dunst's head and then Spidey could go out with the Black Cat instead. Her performance was so terrible, even I didn't want to kiss her. Other than that, it looked cool.

its the only film where i get the impression the guy actually expends brain cells and doesn't just strap on a suit and push a bunch of buttons.
any detective work in the first film takes place off camera (he basically hands Vale a folder of all the conclusions hes reached).

BF is a very flawed film, but the whole thing is much closer to 'comic book' batman than either of the Burton films (yes, somehow a city that has neon lights is cheesy, yet the penguin running for mayor, penguins with missles on their backs, 'scratching' a cd, and a bat ski boat that is utilized and thrown away in basically the same way as the batplane in the previous film are all the height of a one of a kind genius?)
I actually agree. I did like Batman Forever. I don't really like any of them per se but out of the four BF was my favorite.

So far Batman has been much more sucessful in animated form. I'll take an episode of Batman Animated series over the existing movies any day.

I liked Batman Forever as well; my parents say it's their favorite superhero movie and personally, it's my favorite Batman movie (the first Batman comes in at a narrow second place for me). Batman Returns was pretty ridiculous, but if taken as an over-the-top comic book spectacle like Batman Forever, it was fun and I enjoyed it.

I think we can ALL agree that Batman & Robin was completely terrible. The only thing I even remotely liked about it was Uma Thurman, who is one of the hottest women (and best actresses) on the planet.

Spidey 2 looks good from the trailer, as far as I'm concerned. Doc Ock will make an excellent villain (Spider-Man always has the best villains, and Doctor Octopus is one of my favorites). My only gripe is I want to see MORE villains! They can't keep on making Spider-Man sequels forever, and I want to see them take on Venom and Carnage before the original cast bails out!

My guess is Spider-Man 2 will end up on par with X-Men 2, which was a big improvement over the first film.

Is that car scene going to end up in the film? If so, then they chose to spoil a potentially GREAT scene. At least Dunst doesn't look as much of a skank as she did in the first movie. I hate skanks.

I knew they couldn't do Dr. Ock without massive CGI. Maybe they'll use animatronic arms for the close-ups. But he looks very cool. Much cooler than Green Goblin. Please...no more Macy Gray!!!!!!!

The Spider-Man CGI doesn't look that much better in the trailer, but I never let that bother me when watching the first film.

Can't compare SM2 with X2. X2 is an ensemble movie while SM is a more individual story. Looks like they will deal with Harry again. Can't they have Dr. Ock AND Hobgoblin in one movie?

Thanks for that useless contribution.

Anyway, I am just predicting how Spider-Man 2 will rank next to X2 in terms of overall superhero comic book movie standings. I don't let the ensemble aspect deter me from justifiably comparing the two.

I can't believe there are others that liked Batman Forever as much as I did (i.e. better than the others). At least that one had the line: "OH NO!!! Boiling acid!"

Plus Batman used martial arts instead of fighting like a rock em sock em robot.

Spiderman and X-men are a different animal. Spiderman has always had that three color process innocence to it while X-men was darker in theme.
Both franchises have captured the books faithfully IMO.

(Happy with the anticipation )

Well as far as J.K. Simmons return, I think its more than likely since his son does appear in the film. In fact he's in the trailer. I dont know how many people realize that the guy Mary Jane is walking arm in arm with in that one shot is actually John Jameson, JJ's son. And as far as plot, I'm starting to think that they're taking the same road as the X-Men films and developing smaller characters and character arcs for future films. Curt Conners having a speaking role in the film will help set things up for his transformation into Lizard later on. I wouldn't be surprised if Harry discovers the truth about his father but instead of just becoming Green Goblin 2, maybe they'll spice things up a bit and have him do some costume modifications so that Harry will become Hobgoblin instead. And I think introducing John Jameson in the film is a great way to potentially set up Venom. After all, they symbiote comes from outer space and John is an astronaught. Besides, if I recall that was the exact story arc taken in the Spidey cartoon from a few years back. I also think Alfred Molina is a great choice to play Doc Ock. He looks the part and i've always thought he was a great actor. If nothing else, it'll be nice to have a villain whose face we can see. If there was one thing that annoyed me about the first Spider-Man, it was that both the hero and villain's faces were totally covered in masks. This made it hard for me to believe the actors were actually in there, especially during that rooftop scene. Now at least we can get some hero/villain interaction with a guy whose face we can totally see. I'm personally very excited for this and cant wait for July.

JK Simmons was another one of the elements in the first film i was disappointed with.
to me, the character in the comic had a sense of menace and bile about him.
the fact that he was so off-base made him a foolish figure, but he was never purposefully acting like a clown or a boob.
Simmons however played the part in full on Sam Raimi/3 Stooges mode, with a lot of mugging and some really dumbed down lines.

i was hoping they would write that part a little bit smarter, and that JJJ would come off as the consummate ruthless, heartless newspaper man instead of just a big lovable buffoun whose editiorial decisions are of the most basic, bad screenwiters conception of a newspaper editior, variety.

i'm not expecting much more from the character in 2.
he'll act all blustery and his lines will be cliched, obvious and all get big laughs.

Looks interesting. Here's hoping Bruce Campbell has a larger role.

I liked the first Spider-man movie a lot, although i hated both X-men movies with a passion. After having read nearly 30 years worth of Spider-man comics, i felt strongly fulfilled by the movie. After reading 30 year's worth of X-men comics, i felt extremely annoyed with both X-men movies.

When I saw the trailer at the theater I felt a huge rush. I can't wait.
BTW when I saw the guy in uniform standing next to Mary Jane, the first thing i thought was that they are setting up the Venom story arc.
(Of course I thought Billy Dee would play Two Face as well)

I thought John Jameson was Manwolf. Didn't he have that red ruby pendant that changed him into a werewolf, or something to that effect?

Of course, it's been a while since I read Spiderman (that whole clone story really put me off).

I liked the trailer.Doc Ock looks cool. I know everybody has their favourite villian and would like to see Spidey whoop ass on either The Lizard, Hobgoblin, or Venom, but, me, I'd love to see The Vulture.

Anyway, if someone could enlighten me on how J.J is now Venom I would be grateful

I think you're right. John Jameson is not Venom, Eddie Brock is.

Batman Forever had a terrific script and easily my favorite batman cast (other than robin). Easily my favorite of the live action batman films.

Incidentally, when Spider-Man came out, I posted a list of similarities between the plots of SM and BM Forever. it was uncanny. I'll post a link if I can find it.

Finally saw the trailer - so far it looks like a retread of the first film. The effects do look better, but its hard to tell at that size.

I think the original poster was refering to the fact that in the animated show, they used John Jameson as the reason the symbiote got on earth, since he's an astronaut. Practical rather then having Secret Wars
