The Passion of the Christ - New Teaser Trailer

The official teaser trailer just popped up online for this movie on Friday. You can witness it at:

www.thepassionofchrist.com

I dont think it holds the power that the early preview that came out over the summer had, but it's still good. Cant wait for this film.

I agree. But i still can't wait.

I also predict this thread will turn into an argument.

Just saw it. Well, this was your typical Hollywood-style teaser which is not surprise that it doesn't hold a candle to the first one. The most powerful one I've seen is the one with Mel Gibson's introduction though...

I really don't believe you can copyright a movie title, at least one that just uses common words.

Not that anyone really listens to them or pays attention to the site, but there was a screening of this at butt-numb-a-thon from the other day and it's talked about extremely higher at aicn. It evidentally got a 5 minute standing O (which I'm sure Mel Gibson being in attendance had something to do with ), and the only "reviewer" so far calls it the most important film of the 21st century.

But hey, what do they know?

I will say I've been excited about this film ever since who knows when I first heard about it, and I'm only more so now!

I note that the official title is "The Passion of The Christ" instead of (as some sites have reported) "The Passion of Christ"...this makes more sense, since "The Christ" was a title for Jesus (as in "The Messiah") rather than part of his real name.

The reason for the name change is because Miramax has a movie coming out entitled the Passion, also in 2004.

Movies.com says this about the storyline:

Jeanette Winterson's novel upon which this film is based twists through time to reveal a complicated love triangle involving Napoleon's cook, Henri; Villanelle, the daughter of a Venetian gondolier; and the woman with whom she is in love. Villanelle cross-dresses, picks pockets, has webbed feet, and works as a croupier, and Henri is madly in love with her.

I highly doubt Mel would want any confusion between a movie about a love triangle with cross dressers and theives and his movie about the savior of mankind.

Can't wait for this movie. Besides ROTK this is probably the movie that I am looking forward to most. The leaked trailer from earlier this summer was an amazing trailer, but the new one just lacks the punch that the first one had. I just hope that Mel Gibson sticks to his guns and doesn't have the movie subtitled as he originally intended.

Gibson decided to subtitle the movie several months ago.

Why, exactly, would you NOT want the movie subtitled?

Because Mel's original intent was for it to play out almost like a silent film, and I loved the idea. I only hope that for the dvd release we can view it with or without the subtitles.

I have a feeling this may be the "General Audience" trailer, to play in front of PG movies and on TV, as it seems to have eliminated most of the blood and suffering aspect.

But most silent movies still had dialogue cards rather frequently.

I dont really have much of a problem with the subtitles...but I think the no subtitle idea was far better...just let the visuals tell the story...

No subtitles? Thank God (no pun intended) that Mel decided to add subtitles. I'm sure there are scenes where its just dialogue between characters and some of you would prefer to just watch staring at the beautiful faces not knowing a word of what the hell they are saying. And if you can't turn off subtitles on your DVD you can always put a piece of tape across our TV.

That's the thing. I thought Gibson originally intended to not use subs. And if you start production on a film with that idea, you're not going to have long, static stretches of dialogue. You're going to move the film along on a visual level, keeping the dialogue to a minimum.

So, we will see. If there is extended dialogue then I'll consider Gibson a doofus thinking it could work without subs. If the subs still seem extraneaous and sparse in the final product then I'll give him credit.

I am interested to hear your thoughts on this movie - we have been a bit caught up in this project through some partners that are doing a presale campaign for ICON (Mel-G's production company).

Wondering what kinds of numbers you think it'll make?

I was invited to screenings in LA and Atlanta, but had to pass One of my people went and liked it, but couldnt figure out if mainstream america can watch 2hrs+ of latin and aramaeic.
