10 oden says that Shintaro Katzu would give Mifune a run for his money (and did too, in one film). Cruise is just one of those pretty boy samurai.

Ok sure, but can Mifune wear Rayban sunglasses like Cruise? Can he hang from the ceiling like Cruise? Can he kick the everloving crap out of the oatmeal guy like Cruise? So there.

Honk!

Is it, though?

Spoiler:
Cruise dons the samurai gear, rides and fights with the samurai, and has begun to live by (some of) their rules. After Watanabe's character kills himself on the battlefield, Tom Cruise would technically be "the last samurai" alive. Because all the others were killed in the last stand. Just how I took it, anyway.
Spoiler:
I took it to mean the last group of samurai. Samurai is both singular and plural. So, I don't feel that "The Last Samurai" has to necessarily be Tom Cruise. Really, I don't think Tom Cruise's character became a true samurai anyway. By the way, this is coming from a Japanese-American perspective.

Much love for Mr. Katsu. In fact, I personally love the Zatoichi series most of all.

I just didn't know he was an option.

That my friends is the only accurate part of the entire movie.

BTW, mentioning Tom Cruise, Mifune and samurai in the same sentence is an insult to Mr. Mifune's memory.

Mifune's relationship to Kurosawa is like Robert DeNiro is to Scorsese, Peter Sellers is to Kubrick, Max Von Sydow is to Bergman, John Wayne to Ford, or Marcello Mastrioanni to Fellini. And not even these heady icons IMO can chew scenery like Mifune.
I can see the rest of these, but Sellers and Kubrick collaborated on a total of two movies. What about Hitchcock and either Grant or Stewart? Von Sternberg and Dietrich? Etc.

this has got to be the most stupid thread ever.....what are you trying to compare? Those are 2 great actors each important on its own.

Who's a better cowboy.....John Wayne or T.Mifune?

Geeeezzzz.

Way off the thread subject but...
Do they even herd cattle in Japan? I remember reading that Mifune was an accomplished horseman. In Throne of Blood he shoots arrows while the horse is in full gallop. A double was used for most of Wayne's riding "stunts". So, I'll say Mifune is the better "cowboy". Now back to your regularly scheduled nonsense.
