I was pleasantly surprised at the number in attendance at the 10 a.m. IMAX showing for Revolutions, I guesstimate there were around 50 people, which isn't all that bad considering the time of day, and it's now on its 3rd weekend or release.

i am wondering what kind of word of mouth cat in the hat will get. every review i have read about it says it's absolutely awful and from what i have seen of it, it doesn't look too good to me either.

I thought TCITH would draw Grinch like numbers, but it seems like it won't even get close to Grinch's open.
Granted, I didn't want to and won't be seeing either, but I'm not exactly the target for those flicks, but I figured kids would eat it up.

I think wm lopez had a thinly-veiled statement to make when he asked that question, but I couldn't quite see through it. What was he trying to say, I wonder?

I remember how in 1999 THE MATRIX was hailed as the movie of the year and PHANTOM MENACE was so bad.
PHANTOM MENACE won that Razzie award for worst movie of the year. And ATTACK OF THE CLONES won the Razzie for worst movie of the year.
MATRIX REV. deserves the same treatment.

No it doesn't. Revolutions is a better movie than both AOTC and The Phantom Menace.
But that's just one person's opinion. Well, maybe a lot of people's opinion judging by critics.

heh, AOTC and TPM deserved their Razzie noms.
Reloaded and Revolutions aren't quite as bad, but Revolutions came close in the cheese division.
This years winner is almost guarenteed to be Gigli.
Oh and Overall Estimates for the weekend: (I didn't see the other thread first so I'm just sticking with this )
1 The Cat in the Hat Uni. $40,078,000 - 3,464 - $11,569 $40,078,000
2 Gothika WB $19,620,000 - 2,382 - $8,236 $19,620,000
3 Elf NL $19,125,000 -27.4% 3,381 - $5,656 $95,142,000
4 Master and Commander Fox $15,200,000 -39.5% 3,101 - $4,901 $47,265,000
5 Love Actually Uni. $9,050,000 4% 1,690 +513 $5,355 $30,842,000
6 The Matrix Revolutions WB $6,740,000 -58.9% 3,024 -478 $2,228 $125,090,000
7 Brother Bear Dis. $5,466,000 -54.7% 2,885 -145 $1,894 $70,441,000
8 Looney Tunes: Back in Action WB $4,105,000 -55.9% 2,903 - $1,414 $14,781,000
9 Scary Movie 3 Dim. $3,284,000 -46.2% 2,359 -601 $1,392 $106,619,000
10 Radio Sony $2,600,000 -45.9% 1,925 -491 $1,350 $47,061,000
11 Mystic River WB $2,010,000 -38% 1,250 -300 $1,608 $48,549,000
12 Runaway Jury Fox $1,500,000 -46.1% 1,061 -521 $1,413 $46,818,000
A few other random ones:
The Texas Chainsaw Massacre NL $900,000 -65.6% 945 -662 $952 $79,177,000
The Human Stain Mira. $661,000 17.5% 388 +175 $1,703 $3,904,000
Kill Bill Vol. 1 Mira. $550,000 -61.5% 398 -505 $1,381 $68,402,000
Lost in Translation Focus $532,000 -24.7% 228 -73 $2,333 $28,061,000
21 Grams Focus $252,000 - 8 - $31,500 $252,000
Elf appears to be the clear surprise hit of the season, raking in nearly $100m after 3 weeks of release. The Cat In the Hat opened strongly (as expected) but will likely fall sharply in the upcoming weeks. Gothika performed about on par with Dark Castle releases, surprising since it missed the holloween season. Master and Commander dropped 40%, a stable amount and it could still continue to maintain a solid gross. I can't wait to see 21 Grams.
