I don't pay that close of attention, but I thought The Scorpion King was three? (even though a prequel)

I heard that Brendan would be up for a third and that Rachel Weisz has been slowly warming up to the idea....but don't expect anything official for a while... Stephen Sommers is busy with VAN HELSING for the next few months...

Any word on this or did Van Helsing being an underperformer kill any chances of this happening?

I don't think Van Helsing's performance would affect any possibilities of another Mummy movie. If anything, i'd say those involved might be more receptive to the idea since The Mummy is already a successful franchise with an established audience.

As crappy as these movies are, they're hella fun to watch. I'd love a Van Helsing and Scorpion King sequel.
Maybe in the future we'll get Scorpion King vs Conan the Barbarian?(on second thought...I apologize

I only asked based on Van Helsing since it is a Stephen Sommers written/directed feature with a huge budget behind it. I just assumed that maybe Universal might be a little leary toward the idea of throwing money at him again after his last feature didn't do so well.
Still, I hope a third Mummy does happen.

I am actually wondering if Sommers had the idea of merging the two series at one point had Van Helsing performed better. It could have happened since the character of VH was allegedly immortal and could have easily survived an extra twenty or thirty years until the Mummy movies began.

I thought Sommers was working on "Flash Gordon"?
I'd be up for a third Mummy as long as we don't go the same route as "Mummy Returns" (rehashing the same events from the first one). It was OK, but too much of it was redone from the first.

Has anyone been on the Mummy ride at Universal Studios? It looked really cool from some of the making of stuff I saw on it.
Anyway, I wouldn't mind a Mummy 3 at all. The first two were fun popcorn flicks, and as long as they bring back Rachel Weisz's brother from the movie (can't think of his name off of the top of my head), I'd be happy. He's hillarious.

I just hope that, if they do make a third film, their son is off at boarding school and never mentioned again. He wasn't annoying as most children are in this sort of movie but I felt he was an unnecessarry addition just the same.

If it happens let's hope they have a stellar script, and agreed, the son should be off to boarding school at the time. I might get lambasted for this but I think they could carry on the series without Weisz if she simply won't do another sequel.

I think that if they use the son, they should use only him as the hero and have him be about twentysomething years old. Maybe Heath Ledger could play him!
Seriously, leave well enough alone.

I love that idea, PopcornTreeCt. But that would mean no Carl (David Wehnam) since he's not immortal like Van Helsing.
That'd be like not having Johnathan in another Mummy movie.

Fraser Set For Mummy 3?
September 7, 2006 - Brendan Fraser is reportedly set to reprise his role as Rick O'Connell in The Mummy 3. Joe Johnston (Jurassic Park III) has been offered the director's chair.
The script has been penned by Smallville and Shanghai Noon vets Alfred Gough and Miles Millar. Plot details for the movie were not divulged. Stephen Sommers, who wrote and directed the first two installments, is apparently not involved with this sequel.
No word yet on whether Oscar winner Rachel Weisz or Oded Fehr will also return for the third film.
Universal is lining up The Mummy 3 to film early next year, according to ProductionWeekly.com.
