I like Joe Johnston. For some reason I've forgiven him for Jurassic Park 3. I guess because I love The Rocketeer and Jumanji. I'll definitely stay optimistic as long as Johnston is directing.

No Rachel Weisz :drool:= NO SALE!

They've got my $7. I loved the first, liked the 2nd, and hated scorpion king, but I'm down for another Mummy flick. I could care less if they get Weisz back.

Hmmm ... part of what made the first Mummy remake so much fun was the script (pinned by Sommers, MIA) and McConnell's (Fraser) banter between Evelyn (Weisz, possibly MIA) and Ardeth (Fehr, possibly MIA).

But, I'm a sucker for the series, so it'll be worth a watch. :up:

I wouldn't miss Ardeth in the third but Weisz should come back. I just hope the film won't be as bad as the horrid Mummy Returns.

I like joe johnston. i thought jurassic park 3 was an improvement over lost world. lost world was like as the dinosaurs chewed on people we have to save the dinosaurs from these evil people. spielberg at his worst. enviromentalist garbage. i like the writers as well. i have hope for this project but i hope no kid. mummy returns didn't work for me as well as mummy lacked the energy of original and i think the kid was an energy sucker. both van helsing and mummy returns by sommers didn't work as well as deep rising and the mummy. i like the first half of van helsing a lot but the last 40 minutes sucked

I think Breck Eisner or Peter Berg would've been better choices than Mr. Jurassic Park III. It's the movie that put me to sleep the quickest. I probably made it about 5 or 6 minutes in.

I'm not overly impressed with the idea of the guy who did JP3 doing this movie.

I didn't really like JP3, it was lacking something that i really can't quite put my finger on.

Now "The Mummy" that movie is special. I admit "The Mummy Returns" was more action movie and less fun than the first movie, but "The Mummy" was a great mix of action, adventure, and b-movie fun.

I'll miss Stephen Sommers as i believe he made "The Mummy" into the fun movie that it is.

Hmmm...that makes me a little more worried about this sequel though. With this many people not involved it makes it less credible, no?

Would it be the talking dinosaur (and yes, I know it was in a dream sequence)? That was where I lost interest in the film.

I actually thought the Mummy series would have been better if the characters had fought a different classic horror villain each time out. Keep the characters, time setting, and tone of the Mummy movies, but change the locale and the bad guy. Brendan & Rachel vs a vampire (Dracula?), or vs werewolves, etc.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm not that intersted if Sommers doesn't return.

Is he a great director? Nah. But I loved the two MUMMY films, and much of that had to do with his style, energy, almost mischeivous sense of direction. Joe Johnston has never made a movie I liked much. His dismal track record makes me indifferent towards the entire affair.

Rachel Weisz is like unto God.

If they replaced Stephen Sommers with Paul W. S. Anderson, Brendan Fraiser with Rob Schneider, and Arnold Vosloo with Billy Zane, I'd still watch it if Rachel Weisz was in it.

A second half?




I enjoyed The Mummy and even The Mummy Returns to an extent, So I'm up for part 3.

I agree with others that they should leave the kid at home this time.

I'd be happy if they could get the main three actors back: Fraser, Weisz, and John Hannah. I really wouldn't miss anyone else. But those three are essential IMO.

I forgot there was a talking dinosaur.

Perhaps, but maybe the movie just wasn't as fun or maybe the "STUCK ON AN ISLAND...WITH DINOSAURS!" thing ran its course.

The only good part of the movie was anything that discussed or hinted at Grant's life after the events of the first movie.


As for Mummy 3, No Sommers = no sale!

I was hoping she wouldn't be. I feel this would be below her, talent wise. Even if she is great to look at.

I'm surprised the creators of Smallville are writing the 3rd movie.

Rob Cohen is in talks with Universal Pictures to take the reins on a third edition of its "Mummy" franchise.
Not much has been disclosed about the story crafted for "Mummy 3" by scribes Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, but the pic has been in active development for about a year as U looks to keep one of its remaining franchises up and running.

Though no deals are in place for franchise stars Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz to return, both thesps have had discussions about reprising their roles.

Stephen Sommers helmed the first two "Mummy" installments, released in 1999 and 2001; they logged a combined worldwide gross of $849 million.

Producing "Mummy 3" are Sean Daniel, Jim Jacks, Sommers and his Sommers Co. partner Bob Ducsay.

Cohen has helmed two previous pics for U, "The Fast and the Furious" and "The Skulls." He also directed "XXX" for Revolution and "Stealth" for Sony.

"Mummy 3" is being targeted for a 2008 release. While U has several event pics planned for this year, including sequel "Evan Almighty," Adam Sandler laffer "I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" and "The Bourne Ultimatum," it doesn't have a lot of continuing franchises in the works for next year and beyond.

In addition to a third "Mummy," studio has been keen to develop "Meet the Little Focker" and a remake of "The Wolf Man." Last year it purchased Guillermo del Toro's "Hellboy 2" out of turnaround from Sony and Revolution.

But U has largely been seeking to avoid making tentpoles for the sake of tentpoles. U and 20th Century Fox recently backed out of vidgame adaptation "Halo" in part because of its hefty $145 million budget.

Cohen, Sommers and Daniel are repped by William Morris.

Damn! That's worse than even Sommers.

If this movie is even half as good as the glorious masterpiece that is The Scorpion King, it'll be great!

This can only end in suck. I caught 10 minutes of Stealth on cable the other day, and those ten minutes were the most ridiculous I've ever seen.

The first Mummy was a pretty good popcorn movie. Returns and Scorpion King reeked though.

And picking the director of Stealth to helm the third Mummy film will destroy any chance of decency this franchise has left.
