After Congo and Sphere, color me very skeptical (but still interested)

You're right that is not a good sign. I also loved the book and thought the "technical" nature of time travel was really interesting and made the whole concept that much more believable. This movie sounds like it's gonna suck.

To offer my opinion on Paul Walker, I think he's one of the worst actors I've ever seen. I guess it doesn't really matter with the movies he makes though. You don't need to be Oscar-quality to star in 2 Fast 2 Furious.

Timeline

We were talkinga bout the book, so I thought I'd start a thread about the movie:

Thanksgiving release date
Michael Crichton Adaptation
A respectable director - Richard Donner
The star - Paul Walker

Thoughts?

PalmerJoss 11-03-03 09:24 AM

I don't wanna threadcrap, but I don't have very high hopes for the movie. I have posted my thoughts on the book in the Book Forum, but basically what I said is that I thought it was Crichton's worst book.

Having Richard Donner can only be a plus, but Paul Walker as the star kinda ruins it for me. I've never gotten to like him as an actor, but perhaps he will surprise me. I will most likely wait for the dvd release and then make my judgement then.

Kal-El 11-03-03 10:21 AM

Book - good IMO
Director - good
Paul Walker - not good
Book-to-movie changes - not good.

Aside from those 4 points, I think it has more cons than pros going for it.

kneijst1 11-03-03 11:31 AM

ditto to the above two posts. I'm not at all a fan of Paul Walker, and even though I love medieval movies, I very much doubt I'll be seeing this in the theaters or on DVD.

mee2 11-03-03 11:47 AM

This movie looks like it was shot on a "straight to television" budget....

FiveO 11-03-03 12:08 PM

I'll probably go see it....matinee of course. Then I don't have to complain that I paid full price if it sucks.

Interesting concept...but Paul Walker would not have been my first choice.

Turk¿sh 11-03-03 02:28 PM

I really liked the book (I love M.C.) but the movie looks :yack:.

BTW:

Spoiler:
WTF were they thinking changing it from the professor going back in time to Paul Walker's dad going back? I don't know the whole movie script but that just seems like a stupid change

Sessa17 11-03-03 03:09 PM

Book was decent at best. The movie I wouldn't see if someone paid me to. Paul Walker is about as dull & lifeless as an actor can get & I'm really sick of the giant army battle stuff. Nothing is going to top what LOTR did on screen. I'm sure many will flock to this movie but there is nothing about it that makes me want to even rent it.

Timeline 2- the return

Starring Jean Claude Van Dam

coming soon

LOL, i bet money on this.

Groucho 11-03-03 03:32 PM

Richard Donner as director? That's super, man!

Geofferson 11-03-03 05:01 PM

Could turn out to be decent. The book was average at best, so I hope it won't be any worse.

fumanstan 11-03-03 06:30 PM

Never read the book, but i liked the concept better as Black Knight :)

Darren Garrison 11-03-03 10:19 PM

I liked Black Knight better as "The Spaceman and King Arthur".

Flay 11-03-03 10:26 PM

I loved the book, but they butchered the script. Not going to see it.

This movie OWNZ Supreme Sean. OWNZ :D

Deftones 11-03-03 10:43 PM

we'll see. I didn't like the changes I heard about, but it could still be good. Crichton does a decent job at writing movie scripts.....err books, I mean.

DonnachaOne 11-03-03 10:48 PM

I think it's funny that the ads say "From the director of Lethal Weapon".

Does no-one remember SUPERMAN??? Why would they not capitalize on that? That and LW are BOTH Warner films... so it wouldn't be a rights issue...

[rumormill] ... unless Walker actually got cast as the new Superman. Which he claimed he turned down. CLAIMED! [/rumormill]

Watch Braveheart. No obvious cg in that one!

Don't get me wrong, the LOTR films are great so far, but the effects look cartoony. I'm looking forward to seeing actual people on screen in Timeline.

javanut 11-04-03 08:22 AM

You're right. The latest trailer says "Richard Donner - Director of Lethal Weapon."

You know it, buddy.

necros 11-04-03 01:18 PM

to me from the trailer this one looks like just another adverage action/adventure/sci fi-ish kind of movie. I'm sure it will have some moments but I doubt it'll be anything we haven't seen elsewhere. I'm not a big fan of paul walker either :( I'll rent it when it's on DVD

Let's just say after reading it one time, I wasn't in a hurry to go back and re-read some parts. Oh, and FYI, film rights to it have already been bought too. I forgot by who.
