deleted repeat

go on....go to the next post.

I read and loved the book, but I just have a bad feeling about this movie.
I'll definitely go see it though.

TK-421 03-21-03 07:54 AM

Rising Sun was very faithful to the book, up until the ending. Still, I enjoyed seeing it made on the big screen. Sean Connery played Captain Conner well, Chrichton even said that the part was written with Connery in mind.

The book was written with the painfully obvious intention of being a screenplay. Every bit of action and dialogue was written not like something to be read in a novel but like something to be seen on a screen. Formulaic, obvious, with silly science, and far inferior the the earlier Doomsday Book by Connie Willis. The movie'll make billions.

That's the same impression I got as I read the book.

I liked this book. I'll check it out.

There's a trailer available now.

Ripped from trailer thread

I dunno. It could really work but I have some serious doubts. I guess they added the whole father son thing to make it more pressing to save him then just a bunch of graduate students saving their professor.

I did really like that scene with all of the archers firing on Castegard.

FuzzyBallz 04-22-03 01:23 AM

Spoiler:
Man, I can't wait 'til they show the scene where the guy gets his ass sent back to the time of the major black plague in europe in the end.

Can't wait 'til it comes out on film, but unfortunately, they'll probably cut out a major part of the details described in the book, ie, the water cylinder like time machine.

I don't get how people can call Crichton's books cheesy and not Clancy's books cheesy? Why? Just 'cause Clancy's books are manly w/ all the guns, espionage, and government conspiracies? What is cheesy anyway?

And can somebody please stop calling him Chrichton? I mean Jesus Christ, go to amazon.com and look up the guy's name.

harosa 04-22-03 08:16 AM

Hey, a spoiler warning please!

iggystar 04-22-03 12:13 PM

I enjoyed the book. Yes, it was quite obvious the intentions of writing it to become a movie, but it's not Shakespear. It was a nice summer book, tt will hopefully be a good summer flick. Besides, it has Gerard Butler - that alone gets my ticket.

Timeline trailer ( Paul Walker OWNZ you )

http://www.movie-list.com/t/timeline.shtml

I think Richard Donner sucks, and the plot looks silly, but that pillar of awesomeness known as Paul Walker will make me see this. It also has Gerard Butler ( Currently being wasted in Tomb Raider 2 ) and Neil McDonough ( Band Of Brothers, upcoming Walking Tall remake ).

Trigger 07-25-03 12:17 PM

I'm a sucker for time travel movies, so I'll be there.

Tarantino 07-25-03 12:20 PM

Needless to say, I'll be skipping this pail of garbage.

Kal-El 07-25-03 12:25 PM

Absolutely loved the book, and I know they totally bastardized it with this adaptation, but I'll see this out of curiosity anyway.

Kicker_of_Elves 07-25-03 12:38 PM

Count me in

Michael Corvin 07-25-03 02:07 PM

I hated the book (loved all of Crichtons others), hopefully it will be an improvement.

Face/Off 07-25-03 02:35 PM

What's the difference between Paul Walker and Josh Hartnett? One facial expression.

syphon00 07-25-03 02:57 PM

yeah I think they'll totally f*up this adaptation
think Congo...

anyways, the book was awesome
btw for those of you that have not read the book
it has a very scientific explaination of why so-called
"time travel" could never happen because of the uncertainty principle of quantum mechanics meaning you can't determine time and position
simultaneously, anyways if you have some physics background and read the book it seems pretty convincing

of course the movie has to be dumbed down like a 100 times for the average joe to understand, beside who the hell's gonna believe Paul Walker as a nerdy scientist

I thought he was a student? Or the son of whoever went back in time first?

Well, in the book, he's a student of Medieval Architecture/Engineering and the teacher was a "father figure" to him. In this movie, I believe they made it a father-son relationship. I don't know if they took away the "brain" of the character as well.

lesterlong 07-25-03 04:56 PM

Movie looks god-awful.

Deftones 07-25-03 05:58 PM

the book was very good. i enjoyed it, so i can't imagine that i wouldn't like this. that is even if they butchered the story a bit.
